1. A tutor should try to make the learning of a subject as enjoyable as possible. 2. A tutor should try linking every concept (if possible) with the real-world as it will make understanding relatively easy for students. 3. A tutor should connect with the student in such a way that the student should feel free to clear even his slightest of…

I think the most important ability for a tutor is to be able to put yourself in the shoes of the student's point of view as it allow's them to better understand what gaps in knowledge or skill are causing the student's problems and therefore allows the tutor to address these problems. I think my strength's lie in my understanding of core…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to stand in the student's shoes to understand how they think and tackle the problems in order to teach them most effectively. Also, if a tutor can relate to how students think, they can help students reach their goals and preferred grades more easily. My strengths are my ability to break…

To be more open to any subject-related questions so students could as as many questions without any hesitation of being judge whether or not the question is senseless. Assist with their understanding. It's much more helpful for a student if they know why they are using a certain method or technique, rather than just memorising the sort of question a technique should be used for. Understanding of what they're doing makes it easier for them to remember how to answer questions, and it makes it easier to apply their…

I think the most important thing that a tutor does for a students is to create an environment that they enjoy learning in and feel confident in asking questions when they don't understand something. I think the most important stuff a tutor can do is boost confidence to students. You have to make students believe they can tackle anything. It's also about giving tips on studying and problem-solving that fit them perfectly. Making learning fun and showing why it matters in real life—gets them to learn more. I think my strengths as a tutor are…

I personally opine that, as all fingers are not of same length same way every student is unique. A tutor is not the one who only teaches the subject. The role of the teacher is to teach that fighting spirit to learn and deal with the subject and make the subject easy to understand with their experience and guidance. So,they will have a strong…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student from my experience is to have an emotional connection. I feel it is not just about delivering a lecture. A tutor must understand and respect a student’s thought process. For instance, during my second year of tutoring, I had this exceptionally smart student. But his grades rarely…

Being a supportive friend. Whether it's assignment or exam season, or even their personal struggles, tutor should extend help and not afraid to see the student get better. Also, by being available to help outside the class such as email if the student has additional question or more homework. I believe that studying alone can be quite isolating…

Inside DaceyvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Despina worked on understanding the area and volume of 2D and 3D shapes, along with practicing perimeter calculations.

Year 8 student Michael focused on simplifying algebraic expressions and applying the Pythagoras theorem to geometry problems, using visual examples for clarity.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Sophia tackled chemistry syllabus content by reviewing electron configurations (spdf notation) and exploring trends in periodicity, including atomic radius and first ionisation energy.

Recent Challenges

Frequent reliance on calculators for basic operations, such as times tables and simple addition, made it harder for the Year 9 student to build fluency in index laws ("less use of calculator and a more thorough understanding and memorisation of times tables…").

In Year 11 Chemistry, incomplete memorization of polyatomic ions led to slower progress during ionic equation tasks.

For a Year 5 lesson, one student jumped quickly to answers without fully writing out working or reflecting on key phrases from questions, which meant missed details when reading texts.

During a senior selective-style test, another student struggled with time management and needed extra practice under timed conditions—she finished late and felt frustrated.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Daceyville recently noticed a Year 10 student who, after struggling with algebra, began working through examples independently and now occasionally solves problems without prompting.

In another session, a Year 9 student showed new initiative by finishing a research task on her own, whereas before she needed frequent reminders to stay on track.

Meanwhile, one of the younger students has started reading out loud more confidently during comprehension activities and now actively eliminates incorrect answers instead of guessing.

Last week, a high schooler completed her science report on time for the first time this term.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lionel Bowen Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Michael's Catholic Primary School.
