I think most importantly a tutor should be able to engage students more in learning through group/individual activities to keep them going and learning with the entire class. Rather than just explaining things or delivering the lecture. It is important to check their understanding of the topic being explained or information being provided. This…

Providing personalised support both academically and personally is one of the most important things that a tutor can provide. While there are standard ways to tackle most situations, there are cases specific to each student that requires deep and thorough understanding of the scenario in order to effectively deal with them. This could be a…

I believe that encouraging the student plays a very important role in teaching them. I want to motivate them to work harder and give them more confidence. And, of course, give them the perfect guidance regarding their teaching materials too! I am usually very persistent when it comes to tutoring someone. I'm always trying to think of myself in my…

I believe the most important things that a tutor can do for a student mainly relies on what the end goal of the student is. If it is just to get the homework done, it will get done. But, for me as a tutor, I would personally make sure that every student understands the concept from the beginning rather than providing a general overview. I believe…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to boost up their confidence, because it's essential for the student to perform well under exam condition as well as during tutoring or class. And many students tends to lose focus, or go mind blank during exams due to a lack of confidence. In addition, it is extremely important for a tutor…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, make learning approachable, and guide them to become independent learners. It’s not just about explaining the subject—it’s about helping them believe they can do it. A good tutor listens, encourages questions, and creates a space where the…

I believe all educators need to be able to connect with students. My experience is that being able to build bonds of trust and goodwill goes a long way in opening students up to what you're teaching, as well as facilitating a comfortable environment where students not only learn, but enjoy doing so. I believe my past experience in education is my…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for their students is to educate them at the student's own speed. The teacher should encourage and bring the best out of the students, not compare to other students. It is not always about students competing with each other, but doing their best and improving daily. I think my strengths are:…

A tutor should inspire and motivate students to do maths and increase their interest in this subject. Also, tutor should make their students at ease so that they are more comfortable asking questions and clarifying their doubts. Also tutors should ensure that their students understand concepts fully. Help the student overcome their fear, and develop new skills to improve and work on their weaknesses. Try to seek help when they need it and learn how to deal with new challenges everyday without fear. Communication is the key for everything. Being able to meet the needs of the parents and students. Every student is unique and they have goals that they wish to achieve. Although these goals may be similar, I believe a tutor must listen attentively and work towards these particular targets so they can achieve what the student desires. Tutors can help with homework, projects or just help the student gain a more thorough understanding of the subject. As a tutor, firstly, I would like my students to understand that making mistakes is normal and part of the learning process. I think the greatest gift a tutor can provide to a student is support. School can often be an isolating and intimidating experience, and often students, despite being remarkably talented, feel afraid to take risks and go beyond what is expected of them. A tutor can also make the learning experience far more rewarding and enjoyable. Students feel…

For me, I consider giving them the knowledge and confidence to be able to step out of their comfort zone to achieve something previously unachievable the most important thing. Inside Denistone EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Mada worked on understanding positive and negative integers before focusing on rates and ratios as covered in class.

In Year 8, Amelia spent time revising algebra skills and then practiced solving problems involving rates and ratios for her upcoming assessment.

For Year 11, Mey tackled exponential and logarithmic equations as well as integration techniques to prepare for an assessment task.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student did not complete her homework for two consecutive weeks, which meant lesson time was spent catching up instead of learning new concepts.

In Year 11, a student described struggling with test timing; as one tutor noted, "she needs to practice under timed conditions" to avoid unfinished exam sections.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 learner often skipped writing out working in algebra questions—leading to repeated sign errors that slowed progress.

A Year 10 student showed low confidence when facing multi-step word problems and hesitated to attempt unfamiliar formats, especially during area and perimeter tasks.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Denistone East noticed that one Year 11 student, who previously hesitated with trigonometric proofs, was able to independently prove identities by the end of the lesson—a real shift from needing step-by-step guidance before.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student started attempting harder algebra word problems on his own after usually sticking only to basics; he even asked for clarification when stuck instead of giving up.

In primary sessions, Alexis (Year 4) managed all her area and volume questions without mistakes and remembered her times tables clearly.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as West Ryde Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Denistone East Public School.
