A tutor should be able to help overcome challenges the student is facing in a manner that is comfortable for the student. Additionally, the tutor should set strategies and goals to ensure that challenge is overcome efficiently and nothing is forgotten. The tutor should also be an aid to the parents to ensure they are happy with progress. Overall,…

I believe that teaching is not about pumping a student with exam papers or to make them memorise the answers and get good grades, for my satisfaction. But about really making sure the student understands a concept, so that they have a strong foundation and can apply to it many different question styles. This will actively stimulate creativity and…

Important things a biology tutor can do for a student is firstly, learning about them. This means identifying their strengths and weaknesses to create a learning-style which is suitable for the student. As a tutor you should also improve a students studying style and work with them to achieve their best. Tutors should help students build their…

Listen. Every student excels in some ways and does not in others. This emphasises the importance for a biology tutor to present ideas in ways which allow the student to learn them in the most efficient and effective ways. This also ensures that the tutor does not repeat anything the student already knows and identifies what the student has yet to…

I think an essential thing a biology tutor can do for their student is be empathetic! Often, for teachers, its hard to understand what students are feeling, since school and lifestyle has changed from the time they were students to now (in a global pandemic). Therefore, being an tutor who displays empathy about understanding what its like being a…

It is also useful for the tutor to build a good relationship with the student to help increase their strengths in learning and incorporate their interests I…

For this reason, I believe the most important component of tutoring is not working through content, but reflecting and future planning to ensure the student believes they have the skills…

Know your stuff. Always. As simple as it might sound, really bringing your students a reliable foundation of knowledge on the subject is always crucial. It doesn't mean that you ALWAYS have to know your stuff though, we are human, and human can sometimes afford not to know it all. This is when I would go on, do my research, and make sure the next…

I believe that it is important for tutors to be passionate about teaching. This way, it is easier for the student to gain interest in the subject, which ultimately leads to better performance from the student as they are more motivated to study and learn. I also think that it is important for tutors to create a comfortable learning environment for…

The most important thing a biology tutor can do for their student is ensure that the student has gained the ability to consolidate the information taught. Inside Eden HillsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Lucas practised multiplication and division facts and worked on telling time using real-life scenarios.

In Year 8, Ava focused on solving trigonometric equations as well as applying circular geometry concepts through diagrams.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ethan explored applications of differentiation in physics by working through circular motion problems and interpreting the meaning of derivatives in practical contexts.

Recent Challenges

Several Year 11 and 12 students have not completed enough independent revision between sessions, which led to slower recall during test preparation. One tutor noted, "He hadn't done much revision between our last two sessions," resulting in uncertainty with key equations for circular motion and gravitation.

In Year 8 maths, messy written work when solving money and time problems made it difficult to identify where misunderstandings occurred—students often confused cents and dollars or skipped checking their answers.

A Year 10 student understood content in-session but struggled to complete similar homework independently, leading to gaps that reappeared by the next lesson.

Recent Achievements

One Eden Hills tutor noticed a Year 10 student who, after weeks of hesitating to revise, took initiative this session and completed extra practice for two upcoming tests—something he hadn't done before.

In Year 8 science, another student made real headway with magnetic induction; previously confused by the topic, he could now explain core ideas back in his own words without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who used to silently guess math answers started eagerly talking through her problem-solving steps aloud. She finished the lesson confidently tackling new division questions on her own.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Raj has been excellent & Chloe's teachers have really noticed an improvement.  I will recommend Ezy Math to everyone! Thanks for that.

Sorry for the late reply. Yes Ewan is very happy and I can already see his confidence improving.

We are exceptionally pleased with Adhi.  He has done a great job with Jonathon and we hope to get him back next year on a regular basis to help Jonathon in Year 11.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Blackwood Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Blackwood High School.
