I think some of the most important things a tutor can do for a student are: Make their learning experience enjoyable by making learning creative. Making students feel confident about themselves and in the subject. Most importantly making the subject interesting and igniting curiosity in students. As a person, I am someone who is really patient…

I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do is provide support and clarity in areas the student is struggling with. I understand that it can sometimes feel intimidating to ask for help, so I make it a priority to create a safe and understanding environment where students feel comfortable expressing their concerns. Furthermore, for…

In my opinion, the most important things a tutor can do for a student would be to build confidence and make learning approachable according to the learning style of the student. A tutor should be able to create a safe space where mistakes are okay and questions are encouraged. A tutor should guide the students to discover the answers rather than…

The most important thing in tutoring is that the tutor should not force their way of thinking and understanding on the student, instead they should build up from the foundation of knowledge that the student already has, guiding them to find a solution that they can understand. This not only makes the learning process for the student more…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to help students understand concepts clearly and build confidence in their abilities, so they become more independent and motivated learners over time. I am patient and approachable, and I enjoy breaking down difficult concepts into simple, manageable steps. I adapt my teaching to each student’s…

I think improving a student's confidence is the most important thing. I've just seen so many students in the past give up when they see a problem, but if you can teach them to push past this it helps them in this class and in future problem solving scenarios. I make tutoring fun or at least I try my best :) I will make jokes and generally try not…

Tutors should not immediately give students what they want. Providing answers is the easy path for both tutors and students, but then the solutions will always be mine, not the student's. I am not going to simply give them fish; I will teach them how to fish. I have varied experience, not just in, not only in the education sector but also in a…

Give them confidence that they can succeed. I believe with that with the right mindset almost anyone can succeed. Often students just lack confidence in their abilities which results in less effort in the unit and thus worse results. I am passionate about what I do. I care about my job and the students I tutor. I want them to do well and I think…

Tutors are the ones who shape the future of a child. Through their knowledge they help students to overcome their subjects by providing conceptual clarity. I feel tutors are like air traffic controllers who give the right direction and motivation to their students to help them fly in their life. Not only imparting knowledge is important, a tutor…

Being really punctual. When a student wants an appointment with a tutor, the tutor should come on time. Not only that, considering the student's perspective is really important. There are so many things a tutor can do. Firstly, the tutor needs to know about the student bery well where his weak points are and what are his strong points. Considering the syllabus and the effort of student, give him homework and regular check up and gift them with good results can attract a student to study well. 1) I love to teach everyone…

As a tutor, I feel the ultimate goal is to benefit the student to become an independent and confident learner. Mostly, students see their tutors as role models, so it’s very important to keep ourselves updated and supportive throughout and be ready to reach out to them academically and as a friend whenever in need. To conclude, having confidence…

As a tutor, I believing reviewing older concepts and understanding what the student needs from me is most important. I think encouraging the student is the most important thing a tutor can do even more than results as if the student begins to become more inquisitive and enterprising in their own learning they will do better overall. Inside FitzroyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Gus focused on measurement skills including unit conversions, perimeter, and an introduction to surface area, as well as exploring the angle sum in triangles.

In Year 9, Maryam worked on solving simultaneous equations using substitution and elimination, then applied these methods to practical problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ali reviewed operations with fractions—adding, subtracting, multiplying with different denominators—and extended this knowledge to simplifying algebraic fractional expressions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 6 student in Fitzroy showed difficulty setting out work neatly and consistently dating pages, making it harder to track progress—especially when tackling worded measurement problems.

As one tutor observed, "she struggles to walk through questions speaking out loud," which made it tough to clarify her thinking on fraction conversions and unit changes.

In Year 10 English, a student forgot to submit an essay by the deadline, delaying feedback and causing extra stress before class.

A senior maths student arrived unprepared for sessions without essential materials like a pen or laptop; this slowed the start and limited practice time.

Recent Achievements

One Fitzroy tutor noticed a Year 11 student, Celeste, who used to hesitate with trigonometry word problems now confidently solves bearings and graphing tasks on her own—she even tackles complex questions without prompting.

In another session, Maryam (Year 10) moved from confusion about box plots to clearly explaining five-figure summaries and solving simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods.

Meanwhile, in Year 6 maths, Ella showed a shift from struggling with measurement topics to independently working through area and volume questions, finishing her test section on these without needing hints.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fitzroy Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart School.
