Patience is the most inevitable element. I think tutor should dedicate the most of their time, even outside of tutoring session, to answer students inquiry. This shows responsibility and how much a tutor care about their students Patience and well-communication skill. I think it’s important to identify what the student is struggling, hence help…

I strongly believe every student has it in them to excel should they choose to . As a tutor my primary responsibility is to create an interest towards that subject , so they are able draw parallels to it with their day to day activities. In addition to this every student has a different method of learning. Identifying it & helping them understand…

I strongly believe that a good tutor can change the entire perception of the subject for a student. Throughout my life I have been fortunate enough to be in the presence of inspiring teachers because of which I developed a strong liking for my subjects. A good tutor is one who can understand the needs of the student and execute it in the most…

I think encouraging the student is the most important thing a tutor can do even more than results as if the student begins to become more inquisitive and enterprising in their own learning they will do better overall. I think I am patient and am willing to adapt my explanations to the student and their strengths as opposed to giving a standard…

A tutor is very important in providing support outside school. Ensuring that the student finds learning to be fun and interesting, in my opinion, is more important than focusing on higher grades. As a tutor, it is important to cultivate interest in students and create knowledge. I am great at teaching students with learning disabilities and…

Being able to tailor the teaching approach according to the student's needs as required. Not every student learns in the in a linear manner or same way as others, and that might make it difficult to process and learn content when in a big classroom. One of the most important jobs as a tutor is definitely to break things down and explain concepts…

Well, one is to build the student's confidence! I want them to be able to think independently and instil in their minds to avoid the use of AI tools like ChatGPT. I want to create a comfortable space where they can make mistakes and learn from them! A good tutor does not just give the answers, and I'd guide them to find the answers themselves. 1:1…

The most valuable role of a tutor is to distill and emphasize key information for students. Given the sheer volume of material covered in class, it can be overwhelming for students to grasp everything thoroughly. By providing clear summaries and highlighting the core concepts, tutors enable students to focus on what truly matters and apply this…

I think the most important would definitely be creating a connection with the students so that they feel comfortable around the tutor. This helps them love studying and also comfortable in asking doubts to the tutor. I think my biggest strength as a tutor is definitely my patience. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to provide different of point of views to a student. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make the student feel safe to learn. That means creating a space where they can ask questions, make mistakes, and not feel judged. A tutor should listen, be patient, and explain things in a way that makes sense to the student, not just repeat the same thing. It’s also important to build their…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make a student feel genuinely safe and unembarrassed about not knowing something. Once that pressure is gone, they’re actually able to think, ask questions, and learn. A good tutor also pays attention to how a student thinks - not just what they get wrong - and adjusts the explanation to fit…

While a tutor's contracted duty is to assist a student academically, I believe a tutor can do something far more in the process. A tutor can be the reason a student develops a greater sense of purpose at school. A tutor can be the reason a student falls in love with a subject and chooses to pursue it for the rest of their life. All in all, a tutor…

I think it’s the empathy. I believe that no one could know everything at the beginning, even myself. So an empathetic tutor, who knows what their students are experiencing and struggling with, definitely is more inspiring and more able to help students overcome the difficulties. Inside FitzroyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Gus focused on measurement skills including unit conversions, perimeter, and an introduction to surface area, as well as exploring the angle sum in triangles.

In Year 9, Maryam worked on solving simultaneous equations using substitution and elimination, then applied these methods to practical problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ali reviewed operations with fractions—adding, subtracting, multiplying with different denominators—and extended this knowledge to simplifying algebraic fractional expressions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 6 student in Fitzroy showed difficulty setting out work neatly and consistently dating pages, making it harder to track progress—especially when tackling worded measurement problems.

As one tutor observed, "she struggles to walk through questions speaking out loud," which made it tough to clarify her thinking on fraction conversions and unit changes.

In Year 10 English, a student forgot to submit an essay by the deadline, delaying feedback and causing extra stress before class.

A senior maths student arrived unprepared for sessions without essential materials like a pen or laptop; this slowed the start and limited practice time.

Recent Achievements

One Fitzroy tutor noticed a Year 11 student, Celeste, who used to hesitate with trigonometry word problems now confidently solves bearings and graphing tasks on her own—she even tackles complex questions without prompting.

In another session, Maryam (Year 10) moved from confusion about box plots to clearly explaining five-figure summaries and solving simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods.

Meanwhile, in Year 6 maths, Ella showed a shift from struggling with measurement topics to independently working through area and volume questions, finishing her test section on these without needing hints.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Sam has been a fantastic tutor for Annalise, she has improved and was very proud of her end of year results at school.

Yes we are very happy with Alexander , Ruby is a hard task master but seems very comfortable with him and happy for him to keep coming back each week.

Connor has improved so much this year, his confidence, organization & overall results have come from a C to a A. I'm not going to do any tutoring through the holidays or for next year as I'm prepared for Connor to put everything into practice and hope that he can maintain his results without the tutoring. I have been happy with Ezymathtutoring and if Connor was to start to struggle again I know where to come.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fitzroy Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart School.
