I believe the most important thing a tudor can do for a student is listen to the student. Children have a mind of their own and sometimes are misunderstood and I believe that listening to a child can make all the difference in building a relationship with them and developing an understanding for what they aren't getting and how I can help them in…

I consider creating a positive and supportive learning atmosphere as paramount for a tutor. Beyond academic assistance, it involves nurturing confidence, offering constructive feedback, and acknowledging achievements. Tailoring teaching methods to accommodate individual learning styles is equally vital. Effective communication, coupled with active…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to understand and adapt to their individual needs. For instance, I’ve tutored children with attention deficits and had to find creative ways to keep them engaged and make learning enjoyable. Additionally, having enthusiasm and a genuine passion for teaching is crucial. If a…

The most important thing in tutoring is that the tutor should not force their way of thinking and understanding on the student, instead they should build up from the foundation of knowledge that the student already has, guiding them to find a solution that they can understand. This not only makes the learning process for the student more…

Also, keep a track of the student's progress and celebrate the success of the student, which in turn makes the student feel confident. I think my empathy towards my students is my strength. A tutor is basically a role model for the student. If a tutor can quickly solve anonymous problem then student can definitely be motivated and solve there sums. Additionally, Tutor should also connect with the student so that student can discuss the issues faced by them before the exam. Tutors should conduct regular test and provide quick…

I personally think that a tutor has an instrumental impact on the lives of its students.He/She can either make the student fall in love with that subject or make him fear that for the rest of his life. The basic thing that a good tutor should do is understand the level of the child first and then customise his/her teaching technique according to…

A tutor should, first and foremost, listen to how their student learns. In my experience, most kids who are struggling with homework, or paying attention in class, are still very capable of learning, and getting high marks, if you adapt the coursework for them. Particularly with English - and Shakespeare is the worst offender - students can…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to instill confidence in them and encourage them to be determined. I believe I am articulate. I explain…

The most important thing a tutor can do with a student is to encourage them to develop strong study habits. Inside FitzroyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Gus focused on measurement skills including unit conversions, perimeter, and an introduction to surface area, as well as exploring the angle sum in triangles.

In Year 9, Maryam worked on solving simultaneous equations using substitution and elimination, then applied these methods to practical problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ali reviewed operations with fractions—adding, subtracting, multiplying with different denominators—and extended this knowledge to simplifying algebraic fractional expressions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 6 student in Fitzroy showed difficulty setting out work neatly and consistently dating pages, making it harder to track progress—especially when tackling worded measurement problems.

As one tutor observed, "she struggles to walk through questions speaking out loud," which made it tough to clarify her thinking on fraction conversions and unit changes.

In Year 10 English, a student forgot to submit an essay by the deadline, delaying feedback and causing extra stress before class.

A senior maths student arrived unprepared for sessions without essential materials like a pen or laptop; this slowed the start and limited practice time.

Recent Achievements

One Fitzroy tutor noticed a Year 11 student, Celeste, who used to hesitate with trigonometry word problems now confidently solves bearings and graphing tasks on her own—she even tackles complex questions without prompting.

In another session, Maryam (Year 10) moved from confusion about box plots to clearly explaining five-figure summaries and solving simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods.

Meanwhile, in Year 6 maths, Ella showed a shift from struggling with measurement topics to independently working through area and volume questions, finishing her test section on these without needing hints.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fitzroy Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart School.
