Maths Tutor Galston, NSW
Since all maths is built on foundations, I can identify and address weakness in a particular building block, rather than just correcting mistakes. A good tutor does more than simply deliver content, but should inspire creativity within a student. My students will gain the confidence to attack further problems and be empowered with the ability to…

As a maths tutor, firstly, I would like my students to understand that making mistakes is normal and part of the learning process. Making mistakes helps them understand the subject material in greater depth. Secondly, I would like to make learning a fun and easy experience for students and give them the tools to work through seemingly challenging…

A tutor should be a passionate and encouraging role model for the students, congratulating every success, and promoting positivity in engagement and completion of all tasks. I have developed my patience through teaching physical education activities such as learn to swim where I taught students to build confidence and water safety skills. I know I…

The most important thing a maths tutor can do for their student is to not only help them understand content they are struggling with, but to inspire them to realise why attaining high results is important. Higher grades in itself is not an end, rather it is a means to being offered a degree or academic position which the student is passionate…

A tutor not only should be able to help a student understand the subject on a deeper level, but also spark their interests within a subject. They can also serve as great role models which can help them in becoming a better person overall. I am very adaptable, resilient and patient with my teaching. I focus on trying to make sure the fundamentals…

Establishing a routine is one of the most important things a maths tutor can do for a student. Tutor helps the student to identify the root-cause of a problem and then finding out the solution. A schedule is followed throughout the teaching tenure. This practice not only helps the student to excel in their studies, but also in their lives as they…

A tutor is there both to teach content and to improve a student's study habits. Seeking advice from teachers, peers, and my past tutor, I have developed helpful study skills and I recognise inefficient habits. I have gained an appreciation for tuning study practices to the individual for optimal results. Learning to work with my ADHD has…

In addition to improving the student's understanding of a particular subject area, the real value comes from: (1) learning *how* to learn; in other words, getting to understand the many resources available (web and paper), attacking the problem, and getting the answer independently. This is empowering for the student, and essential for further…

I believe that instead of simply passing down knowledge to students, it is crucial to provide guidance to independent learning. Students cannot rely on tutors to help them do their work forever, so I believe that apart from teaching new learning strategies, it is also important for tutors to cultivate independence in their students. I believe that…

I think, its a maths tutor's responsibility in helping the student to understand their inner potential by suggesting ways to broaden their skill sets, pushing their boundary to convey that there is much to learn in life. Inside GalstonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Daniel focused on converting word problems into algebraic expressions and practiced finding the interior angles of quadrilaterals, using diagrams to structure his solutions.

In Year 8, Lukas worked through Pythagoras' Theorem for right-angled triangles and manipulated algebraic variables to solve for unknowns.

For Year 9, Sophie covered geometry topics including surface area and volume of solids, with an emphasis on using logic to streamline multi-step calculations.

Recent Challenges

Several high school students left a large portion of their maths work unmarked, which limited opportunities for targeted feedback—one tutor observed, "a significant portion of his school work is unmarked."

In Year 10 algebra, skipping the marking step meant persistent sign errors went unnoticed and slowed progress.

A Year 8 student showed reluctance to lay out steps when rearranging equations, making it difficult to pinpoint misunderstandings.

For a senior student revising payoff graphs in maths, revision focused mostly on easier examples rather than tackling complex options.

When exam season arrived, overconfidence led one Year 11 student to overlook question instructions, missing critical marks as a result.

Recent Achievements

One Galston tutor noticed that Tom, a high school student, was able to tackle multi-part algebra questions with much more independence—he interpreted graphs and connected them back to the underlying expressions without prompting, something he hesitated with in earlier sessions.

Will, also in high school, started attempting challenge problems that most of his classmates avoid; even when stuck, he persisted rather than giving up.

In primary years, Riley showed a real shift by listening carefully during fraction work and, by lesson's end, handled mixed negative fractions confidently—a big change from his previous confusion on these topics.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Laura has definitely gotten Diana to a great start. She eagerly anticipates her tutoring  and is seeming to take more  interest in Maths especially in the strands that she did not feel very confident about. Diana has told me that Laura's  explanations are easily understood and is simplified which makes it easy to remember. She also explains various strategies that can be used for problem solving which is good for time management when attempting to solve problems in class. Diana is able to use the notes taken during tutoring in class which is assisting with her understanding of the relevant strand or concept.

Things are going really well.  Emily is a lovely young woman who has engaged well with my daughter.  Tia feels comfortable with her and is learning new skills.  It is great. Thanks once again for such wonderful service and professionalism.  It is such a change to receive follow up and genuine interest in the service provided .  Your company is to be commended!!

We asked for assistance on a short term basis to help with some exam preparation.  Our tutor was quickly able to assess our daughter's capability and provide practical assistance with problem solving and techniques. Most importantly the tutor instilled real confidence in our daughter's ability, offering encouragement, support and reinforcement all the way.  We would not hesitate to contact Ezy Math for our future needs.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Galston Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Galston Public School.
