To get a student more than prepared for the subject that they would need to tackle. I can do this by providing as much quality information, knowledge and advice to the student so that they can answer and manage any questions that they may face. As you can never be too prepared. Listening and communication, as that I feel is crucial in providing…

A teacher must be absolutely predictable in terms of her expectations of her pupils. She must stick to her classroom expectations and be very consistent. If a class senses that the teacher is unsure, they will be in charge of that classroom very shortly. Therefore, consistency is a must. Fairness is also important. Being willing to listen and…

From personal experience i think that the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is remain positive, patient and listen to what the student says as well as share personal experiences and techniques they may have used to overcome any issues. Remaining calm and respectful towards a student is an essential part of creating a suitable…

A tutor has to be able to help the pupil understand the concept at a pace or in a manner that allows the pupil to gather information clearly diminishing any difficulties that they might have. The best thing a tutor to do is come prepared and organised before a session bringing along questions related to the issues that the pupil might have and…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to build confidence in their student's learning, guild them to think critically and solve problems independently. A competent tutor will create a supportive environment, encourage their students to ask questions, and allow them to develop the skills required for success in their future studies. My…

A tutor needs to create a safe environment for students to ask questions and learn more about what they’re studying, without the fear of getting things wrong. Inside HilbertTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Isabelle focused on trigonometry basics and revisited the quadratic formula, also reviewing compound and simple interest calculations using real-world examples.

A Year 9 student tackled linear algebra by solving for x in equations with one or two unknowns, as well as finding gradients and y-intercepts when graphing lines from coordinates.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student worked through addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions and explored perimeter and area concepts for various shapes using diagrams to reinforce understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often relied on a calculator during class, especially for basic arithmetic, which limited their ability to spot errors in compound interest and index questions.

As one tutor observed, "he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors."

In Year 10, another student struggled with organizing study materials—missing notes meant extra time spent searching instead of practicing trigonometry.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student forgot to bring both homework and a notebook to sessions; this disrupted review and made it harder to build fluency with multiplication tables.

The gaps became obvious when multi-step problems came up unexpectedly.

Recent Achievements

One Hilbert tutor noticed high schooler Solomon's big shift with trigonometry: after weeks of confusion, he worked through his teacher's extra worksheet and finished the session visibly happy, even managing the hardest ratio problems thanks to a basketball analogy.

Another recent win—Isabelle (Year 10) has started bringing her own questions to each lesson and now asks for help the moment she feels stuck, instead of quietly guessing; this new habit is helping her finish homework with almost no errors.

Meanwhile, primary student Tawny remembered fraction skills from months ago and confidently compared fractions using multiple strategies in their latest session.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Justin has been such an asset to Connor, honestly, his confidence and understanding has improved with Justin's assistance. We are so greatful to yourselves and Justin for all the work and patience over the past couple of weeks.

Also, I would like to say that the tutor provided, Ray, was outstanding. A thorough gentleman, always professional, diligent, interested and concerned. Just a good decent young man on every front. I certainly believe that Ray deserves some acknowledgement and recognition, and that he set a standard in your organisation that would be hard to better, he is a great testament of quality that any organisation tries to deliver. We were always pleased to have him in our home and wish him all the very best in his future.

I also wanted to say Matthew has been absolutely fantastic, he has a great manner and is very patient.  Anja's maths has definitely improved. i suspect we will need a tutor again in the second half of next year hopefully Matthew is available then.  I will certainly recommend your service to others.   I also wanted to say thank you for all the fabulous resources you offer.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Armadale Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Xavier Catholic School.
