I believe the most important things an english tutor can do for a student are to create a safe and encouraging learning environment, build the student’s confidence, and help them develop independent learning skills. Beyond explaining content, a tutor should listen carefully, be patient, and adapt their teaching to the student’s needs. By doing…

Ensure they meet there every need and ensure a student is enjoying their learning, because if there not enjoying they won’t do well. Being polite and patient with students is crucial as it may take a while for them to understand but encouraging them and having their back will bring out their confidence and it will show in their results aswell.…

Inside HobartTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Scarlett practised identifying and using Greek and Latin roots in vocabulary, as well as applying rules for prefixes and suffixes in word-building activities.

In Year 11 Chemistry, Aimee revised stoichiometry with a focus on mole-mass conversions, then worked through practice questions on organic compound IUPAC naming.

Year 12 Biology student Charli recapped content on the innate and adaptive immune systems by answering targeted multiple-choice questions and reviewing key principles from recent class notes.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 Chemistry, Aimee sometimes became overwhelmed by multi-step questions and "overcomplicated the nature of some questions," as her tutor observed.

She occasionally missed key details in exam-style problems by not breaking them into manageable parts, leading to confusion about which rules or equations to apply.

Meanwhile, Scarlett (Year 7 English) tended to answer quickly without processing, often skipping words when reading aloud—this made it harder for her to spot run-on sentences or craft detailed responses.

During creative writing, hesitation and doubt caused delays; her initial ideas stayed unstructured instead of being shaped into a draft.

Recent Achievements

In Year 11 Chemistry, Aimee started attempting stoichiometry questions ahead of lessons, even on topics not yet taught at school—showing new initiative and willingness to tackle challenges early.

Meanwhile, Charli (Year 12 Biology) moved from hesitation to actively asking clarifying questions during sessions and began drawing her own diagrams to test understanding without notes.

At a younger level, Cameron demonstrated more independence by bringing their creative writing draft for feedback and openly incorporating suggestions into revisions.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Isabella likes the fact that Mina will give her Maths problems to work on to reinforce what she has learnt , rather than just explain concepts and move on. She feels that Mina makes sure that she UNDERSTANDS the concepts.

Chloe is fantastic. Jasmine enjoys the maths time in the way chloe has set it out. Jas has already made progress and chloe helps building her confidence. She is wonderful thank you so much.

Blake seems to enjoy his tutoring so far, as you said it can take a few lessons to really get settled.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as State Library of Tasmania—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Michael's Collegiate School.
