I think the most important part of for a student to achieve their full potential whilst feeling confident with what they are learning. Learning shouldn’t be a tedious task and the more you understand the content, the more you enjoy it. I want students to learn as well as be able to apply what they’re learning. I believe I can help them feel…

I found that it wasn't the students abilities that was the issue, but rather their engagement with the content. I want to be the teacher who approaches the content proactively, get them curious and wanting to know "why?" and "how?" instead of just accepting what was given to them at surface level. I find it important to encourage students to…

I guarantee to provide an informative and enjoyable lesson for each session in order for the student to take along something new they have learned in class. I achieve and allow my students to aim in getting higher grades once starting tutoring. I believe by tackling the difficulties and uncertainties of the student (eg. their weaknesses in a…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is teach them the formulaic way of how to study. There is a set procedure that is unique to every individual and subject of how to fully understand and apply various concepts. Once one is able to find that procedure and develop it, they are able to learn much more in their given subject. In…

The most important thing a tutor can give to a student, I would say is give hope and ease the path they are taking. I have been teaching and mentoring for more than 7 years, and it is nice to see where my students have reached. It is a really nice feeling, when you know your students are doing well in terms of education as well as the mental…

I believe that I should not be teaching facts and topics as an end and assume that students will understand the deeper concepts and principles. Deeper understanding of content- If students do not understand the deeper concepts and principles behind the facts, the students’ knowledge will be superficial and will not be able to transfer their…

Making sure the Student uses the skills they have been recently taught and to put it into practice. Otherwise knowledge crumbles and cannot be built upon. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is probably stay for a bit longer with the student to help with any questions that the student may ask. Taking some of time to also explain to the student even after the session has been completed. Another important thing is to build a friendly environment for the student, and become…

Enriching a students' knowledge of a topic and allowing that increased knowledge to shine through their academic prowess within their schooling efforts. I truly believe this will be actively listening and giving plenty of feedback. A good tutor will always make sure that the student really understands the concept and knows how to effectively teach the student in a way that works for them. Different students have different ways of learning and it’s the tutors responsibility to make sure that they…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is really listen to what they have to say and be patient. Some students may have the right idea in essence but not the right answer. It from building their idea to make them realise how close they are to having the right answer to the question. Shutting down a student and giving them…

A tutor can give a student not just an academic lesson but also a life lesson. A tutor can give students knowledge as well as they can teach students almost everything from how to manage time to how to handle stress. Tutors are a student’s second parent. I believe tutors need to understand their students, given that not all individuals hold the same skills or pace of learning and as such, need to be taken into consideration or have the lesson plans catered to their needs. Tutors must, nonetheless, put in large amounts of effort to ensure the student receives and understands theory that is taught,…

As a tutor, our main obligation is to implement methods of teaching that allows students to understanding the materials in a way that isnt too complex, but at the sametime, yields the required results when the time comes around. Key to the student's success is built on having someone that they can turn to if they require advice or support, not…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them grow on a daily basis. An important characteristic to take on as a tutor is to listen and communicate effectively with the student in order to help teach material in a way that helps them understand. We had our first tutoring session with Kyle on Sunday. He was an exceptional young man. Incredibly nice and engaging with our daughter and did a great job for the initial session.

Inside Hoxton ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Lucy worked through telling time and solving worded problems, practising with both written and visual examples.

In Year 8, James focused on linear equations and tackled financial mathematics problems, applying these to real-life contexts.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Sarah developed her essay writing skills and refined short answer responses for English assessment tasks.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student, when tackling worded maths questions on linear equations, often skipped writing down the problem's key details, leading to confusion and missed marks. "He jumped straight to calculations without unpacking what was asked," noted a tutor.

In Year 10 English, one student avoided outlining essay structures before drafting; as a result, ideas felt jumbled during timed assessments.

Meanwhile, in Year 5 maths, messy fraction working made it hard for them to spot errors or revisit steps later—erasures blurred their original thinking. These habits left them uncertain when reviewing or under exam pressure.

Recent Achievements

A Hoxton Park tutor noticed a Year 9 student who used to avoid multi-step equations now works through two-step problems independently, only checking her answers at the end instead of asking for help after each step.

Another win: a Year 11 student recently shifted from writing incomplete short answer responses to producing full paragraphs with clear structure, tackling his English essay task more confidently than before.

In primary sessions, one Year 4 learner—who often guessed times on clocks—can now read and interpret timetables correctly, finishing a transport worksheet without any prompting.
