The most important thing a maths tutor can do is to be supportive. Even the students struggling the most always have something they're doing well. The tutors job is to highlight that and develop skills to transfer those proficiencies to other areas of the subject. Furthermore the tutor must be patient. A student is there because they need help and…

I make sure that lessons should always be of a high standard and focused on the weaknesses of the student rather than general course content. I also aim to be productive in every lesson while making sure that the student is comfortable with my teaching. Moreover, I believe that it is part of the tutors responsibility to give their students…

I think patience is the most important skill a maths tutor can have. Some students don't understand a concept right away, I had to have a concept explained to me multiple times before and if the tutor was patient I was not scared to ask. I think as I have been tutored before I knew what worked for me and what didn't so I could apply those ideas.…

The most important thing a maths tutor can do is to practice empathy in order to ensure the student knows they're in a safe environment where they are allowed to make mistakes and learn from them. Being kind and really listening to what they say to you is also essential, as you don't want them to feel like they can't talk to you, as this will…

I believe that a maths tutor should be extremely cautious in what they say; can everything be supported with a logical statement? Because the steps the tutors take to construct the answer are how the students learn from them, a tutor must prepare well and be confident and knowledgeable of what they are giving to the students. It's not about…

The best thing that a maths tutor can do for a student is not to regurgitate information - that can be found by reading a book, or browsing the internet; but to inspire. EzyMath tutoring is highly recommended. From my initial communication with EzyMath they have delivered exceptional customer service. My daughter is already reaping the benefits of her fabulous tutor after only 4 one hour sessions. Her grade for her algebra topic test has improved by 30%! Can not speak highly enough of this company

Inside KareelaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Tia focused on measuring length and applying reading comprehension skills to short texts.

For Year 9, Josh worked through Pythagoras' theorem and indices problems using targeted revision questions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Mia practiced solving linear equations and rearranging algebraic expressions, with extra attention given to breaking down multi-step processes for clarity.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 financial maths, a student hesitated to write out her working, especially when combining multiple steps—she generally knows what she is meant to do however, struggles when adding multiple steps together.

During Year 9 algebra sessions, another student skipped writing down rearrangement steps, leading to confusion with simple interest questions.

In a Year 7 division lesson, a lack of confidence saw one student avoid certain problems unless completely sure of the answer.

In each case, incomplete written working and avoidance after setbacks slowed progress—sometimes the page stayed blank just because an answer didn't come easily at first.

Recent Achievements

One Kareela tutor recently saw a Year 10 student, who had struggled with algebraic manipulation just two weeks ago, now solve equations and tackle geometry independently—she finished her quadratic problems without needing any hints.

In a Year 8 session, another student showed a real shift: after often rushing through fraction work and making small errors, he slowed down and started checking his steps, leading to correct answers when converting between mixed and improper fractions.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who used to avoid reading out loud volunteered to read an entire passage during the session.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Hi Erica, everything good so far. Isaac is lovely and Adam appears to be relating well to him. He has had 2 recent Math tests and has seemed more relaxed about them so I think we're seeing some short term gains already.

Hi Erica, Yes all seems to be going well with Sean's tutoring. He responds well to Andy. Thanks

I came to work for Ezy Math towards the end of my first year of university to gain more experience for my degree and resume, and to keep an on-going job with other jobs which came and went over the years. I was able to deal with various teaching and learning situations which have informed the way I deal with students in the classroom. I'm much more articulate and authoritative when dealing with potentially difficult situations. In terms of expectations, I'm able to plan, organise and set expectations of students' goals as a result of some bad experiences which, overall, have contributed to my own skills as a teacher/tutor. I would recommend Ezy Math to students who need help. To other tutors, sometimes it may be tough, and students may be difficult, but overall the experience is great and you'll learn a lot about being an independent worker and developing interpersonal skills which you'll need for future jobs and later years of university. It is particularly rewarding with students - seeing improvements about the way they view and approach Math as a subject, and even enjoying it as a subject. For clients, Ezy Math tutors will work with you to help your child's needs. In the long term, I know that the process of tutoring with Ezy Math should assist or allow you to better understand your child's learning needs. Overall,  Ezy Math gave me starting experience which over the years has lead to other jobs. Now I continue to private tutor, and work with particular tutoring companies which cater to selective school students. I started as a first year and now I'm in 4th year honours student. I think that Ezy Math is a great way to start off and a great way to learn responsibility and job balance as a first, second or even third year university student.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sylvania Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kareela Public School.
