I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to present more options and allow the student to choose which way of studying suits them most. In many cases, the students struggling with their subjects are merely going in the wrong direction with their studying, so as a tutor, I will try to present other ways of studying that best…

One important aspect of a tutor is to be a positive role model. This requires maintaining appropriate behaviour which makes students to feel at ease in their learning environment, as well as setting an example. Being patient and attentive towards students' needs are therefore essential. Another feature should be to provide students with ideas for…

I think the most important thing is believing in them and their ability to do it, Sure you can talk for hours and hours about a subject but if they don't believe in themselves they'll doubt themselves and this can make their current and future studies a problem. Also i believe using each individual child's pace and unique learning technique helps…

The tutor needs to always put the students' needs first. Tutors need to listen and understand the students' learning level and subsequently apply this knowledge in order to improve the way a student learns. This is important since every child can reach their full potential, they just sometimes need some guidance. The tutor needs to keep the…

In my opinion, a teacher must always be willing to learn those concepts for his students which they want to know. Also , a teacher must even provide them with some learning methods so that they can get grasp over any topic easily. Moreover, a teacher must always motivate a student and help him to think out of a box. Apart from that, teacher can…

Inside Lucas HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Madison completed revision on Critical Path Analysis and Bivariate Data, tackling a mix of past exam questions and personal weak spots.

In Year 11, James focused on mastering Normal Distribution through targeted practice problems and began exploring Network Concepts to consolidate understanding.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Mia worked through positive and negative integers using real-world examples, then practiced applying BIDMAS rules to multi-step equations for accuracy.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student in Chemistry was hesitant to start homework or practice questions without being prompted, making it harder to pinpoint which concepts truly needed extra support—"she waits for me to suggest what to try."

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student struggled to sustain her ideas in English written responses, especially when reading too quickly and missing crucial details in short answer tasks.

In Mathematics, a Year 8 student repeatedly avoided writing out working for algebra problems, leading to sign errors that slowed progress and forced frequent backtracking during the session.

Recent Achievements

A Lucas Heights tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who, after struggling with previous exam mistakes, is now clearly recognising where she went wrong and confidently explaining how to fix those errors.

Another high schooler began asking for practice questions on new chemistry topics—something she hesitated to do before—and now tackles unfamiliar problems without waiting for prompts.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who was once reluctant to ask for help has started pinpointing the exact steps in maths that confuse him and openly requests clarification, then attempts similar problems independently right away.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Natalie is really good and reliable. Cheryl is actually enjoying her tutor lessons with Natalie and looks forward to them. I actually was watching them for a bit during one lesson and I have to say, the way Natalie tutors is quite impressive. I have no negative feedback about her. Really appreciate your help in finding a good tutor for my sister :)

Jacqueline is really enjoying having Denise as her tutor.  She finds Denise's manner and approach to tutoring very good.  Jacqueline said it has made a great difference in her knowledge, understanding and confidence.

Vik is doing very well, my daughter is very happy. She would like to continue with him.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Engadine Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Engadine West Public School.
