According to my experience, the most important thing for a tutor is to build such a relationship with the student so that the student should be comfortable talking and sharing his/her problems and issues without any hesitation. As a tutor, my strengths are motivating the students, communication, flexibility, patience, and adaptability according to…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are provide clarity, build confidence, and adapt to each student’s learning style. Patience and communication also help students grasp tough concepts more effectively. I focus on breaking down complex topics into simple steps and offering practice to help them improve. For example, one of my…

Find out what their strengths are, as well as their challenges, so draw attention to them. It is also very important to get them inspired and enthused about what they are learning so they actually want to learn and even to further their interests themselves. I am patient, interested and a good listener. It is quite natural for me to listen and be…

The most important thing to keep in mind when tutoring in my opinion is to help them gain confidence & enjoyment in the subject. If a student believes they are bad at a subject, they often won't try as hard because they view it as pointless. Confirmation bias can also lead to only noticing when they make mistakes, meaning they won't recognise the…

Critcal thinking and the method of approching to problems are what I think the most important in doing maths. Answers to the problem without critcal thinking is generally useless. I live in the city, therefore is fairly convenient to teach as a tutor. Furthermore, I am confident to teach others in the maths and economics areas since I now major in…

As someone who has personally experienced anxiety due to academic pressure, I deeply understand how stress can block learning. My own struggles with grades have taught me that the most important role of a tutor is to create a safe, patient space where mistakes are welcomed as part of the process. I focus not just on academic content, but on…

The most important thing would be to push them to be passionate and to be interested in what they are doing, and to help them want to improve at what they're learning. I find myself to be very relatable to students, likely due to my age, and able to convey information in a way that makes it easy to understand for a younger…

The first step is to listen to the problem of the student. Identify the best way to teach the student. Then slowly improve the confidence in the student to master the subject. My strengths as a tutor are clear communication, patience, and the ability to adapt explanations to different learning styles while building students’ confidence and…

A tutor should first of all help the student to build his self-confidence and self-esteem. Appreciating small efforts and hard work of the student will allow him to be more confident and continue working in that direction. This will help him not only academically but also in later stages of life where he will learn the importance of perseverance…

I believe taking the time with each individual student and connecting with them on a personal level is the most important thing as each student is going through different experiences and difficulties. One of the key things a tutor should be able to do is identify a student's weak points and strengths. Secondly, I believe that you should know how to cater the experience of tutoring to each student based on their background. In addition to this, a tutor should be able to use a variety of techniques to teach a single concept because different…

Give time, especially more before the exam. This is because that is the time when most of the problems about the subject come out. Also, the tutor needs to make sure that the student understood the topic. The tutor should be willing to explain the topic as many times as the students want to. I can adapt very quickly. I put myself in the shoes of…

Easy to book. Tutor at first glance was quite young but, very sensitive to the needs of my teen and after three weeks is already more confident. Very professional service from both the tutor and head office. Highly recommended!

Inside MaidstoneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ruby focused on trigonometry in right-angled triangles and practiced applying Pythagoras' theorem to worded problems.

In Year 10, Adam tackled expanding and factorising quadratics, reinforcing his understanding by working through algebraic examples step-by-step.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Sam reviewed the difference between perimeter and area using measurement tasks and deepened skills with fractions, including finding lowest common multiples and adding unlike denominators.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student tackling trigonometry sometimes swapped formulas or forgot which process to use, leading to confusion during practice tests—"he forgets the formula or what to do and requires me to rejog."

In Year 9 algebra, one student hesitated to write out steps, thinking in her head instead; this made it hard for her to remember content and led to lost marks when checking answers.

A Year 8 student gave up quickly on harder problems, asking for hints rather than reviewing earlier examples.

When homework was missed in Year 7 maths, gaps appeared with reverse operations, slowing progress in class.

Recent Achievements

One Maidstone tutor noticed a big change in a Year 10 student who used to get stuck on vector problems; now he confidently explains each step and applies methods across different questions.

Another high schooler recently sat a 45-minute test without distraction—she concentrated the whole time, then debated her answers during review instead of second-guessing herself like before.

A younger student has started using her fingers to work through tricky multiplication and division tasks, showing new independence where she once hesitated to try alone.

Last week, one girl finished all her homework on time and even picked up a new formula by herself without being prompted.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Maribyrnong Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Footscray North Primary School.
