I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence and independence as a learner. Rather than just giving answers, a tutor should guide students to understand the process so that they can apply on their own. My strengths as a tutor lie in my patience, adaptability, and communication. My teaching style…

First of all, teach and guide them. I understand that children know their academics, they just need a guide to show them the right way of approaching these questions. I love math so I love teaching math and I hope I can impart my love for mathematics in my students too. I have been tutoring for a long time so I can say I do have quite a bit of…

A tutor should always analyse the strengths and weaknesses of their students. This will provide a detailed insight to the tutors on which areas to particularly focus on. Furthermore, based on the strengths and weaknesses of each student, a tutor can prepare a routine for the students in order to enhance their knowledge in those subjects where the…

A tutor shouldn't be the individual who would only be associated with studies and stuff. A tutor should be someone to whom a student can approach with any sorts of problem with the expectation that their tutor can find a solution to it. Moreover, a tutor should be a guiding light to the student. - Communication - Experience -…

I believe a tutor is not sole to enhance the academic excellence of a student, but to help the student to develop personal skills in their character and morals as well. In my opinion, a teacher is the bridge between a child and their growth to become an adult. The personal character traits, morals and ethics they learn from school and teachers…

I believe in the importance of developing a student's own independent thinking skills, so that they gather the confidence to correctly respond to any problem that an exam or test may pose individually as I, the tutor, will not be there to help in assessments. By doing this, the student can cement beneficial study habits and obtain their academic…

Tutors should be a friendly guiding figure that the student feels that they can approach at any time for assistance. A tutor should not just solve a question for a student, rather they need to supply the foundations and processes that allow a question to be broken down and solved easily. Clare is comfortable with Daniel already and has had at least a boost in confidence with having him "on her team".
Bridget, McKinnon

Inside McKinnonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Daniel worked on recognising and naming shapes, as well as exploring equivalent fractions using visual aids.

In Year 9, Ruby focused on solving equations with one unknown and practiced operations with fractions and ratios to build confidence.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Chloe reviewed the use of trigonometric ratios for right-angled triangles and applied bearings in geometry questions, often working through real-world navigation examples.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4, one student arrived unprepared—no homework or maths books—leaving the session unfocused and limiting review of subtraction and times tables. As a tutor noted, "he was under prepared for me to be there and once again had no homework or schoolbooks with him for either of us to review."

In Year 8 algebra sessions, another student's written work was often messy and lacked clear working steps; negative signs were missed during factorising quadratics, which led to repeated calculation errors.

During a Year 11 trigonometry lesson, heavy reliance on notes made it difficult to independently apply bearings concepts when challenged with practice questions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Mckinnon recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to rely heavily on worked examples now able to solve trigonometric equations independently and draw the corresponding graphs without prompting, even choosing the right method for minimum or maximum points independently.

Another high schooler, previously hesitant to use calculators in class, successfully applied Pythagoras's theorem unaided and calculated trigonometric values while working through problems on circular functions.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student who often guessed at shapes is now confidently naming them and identifying fractions once they're explained, finishing a worksheet with no errors this week.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

It's my first time ever tutoring primary school and high school students formally. I admit I was quite nervous at the beginning and I thought the parents would have been highly demanding. I found that the parents are extremely cooperative and the whole work environment is very flexible. I devolped my Communication skills, especially with younger kids and their parents. I believe in this era, face-to-face conversation is overlooked by many thanks to the advanced technologies but the tutoring experience strengthen my belief that face-to-face communication is still the best way to communicate and share ideas.

Things have been fantastic, Anisa is such a help and we are so happy with her. Christian is going very well, we are so glad we found you guys.

Thank you to Ezy Math Tutoring for providing an excellent service and an excellent tutor. My child needed support in VCE English and History. I contacted Ezy Math Tutoring after researching tutoring services on the Internet. The tutor organised brilliant lessons. She encouraged and supported my child through her final year of secondary school. As a result, my child got an ATAR score needed for the course she wanted to do and will be attending her preferred university.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bentleigh Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ormond Primary School.
