I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is be a student's number one supporter. School fills you with enough doubt as is, so it is imperative to create a safe learning environment for them to make mistakes in order to grow. This goes hand in hand with being a role model whom they can be inspired & motivated by and look up to. I believe…

I would say being able to help the student in a way that they won’t require help anymore in the future. To teach them life skills such as being able to add, subtract, tell the time, spellings, nouns, pronouns etc which will come in very handy and is used in everyday life. I am pretty good in Maths and English so those are my strongest subjects…

The most important part about being a tutor is being able to assist in maximising student potential. To be able to cater for the my students is a very important role for me. By monitoring their process, adjusting my teaching, recording and reviewing this helps tutors to better benefit their students learning characteristics. Another important…

Psychology Tutor Brandon Park, VIC
I believe a tutor should assist each student with their learning style to achieve the best in a subject and also be a good role model to help them in their school journey. A tutor should also be optimistic, encouraging and compassionate to understand each student's needs and goals. I am a diligent, flexible, compassionate and open-minded tutor…

Being able to help students understand what they're learning and then carrying that over and applying that to any assessments they may have. Making sure the student is confident in their own ability and that they remain calm during stressful situations where they may be short on time is also very important. Also stimulating any interests the…

Psychology Tutor Heidelberg Heights, VIC
A tutor's main goal should be to help the student develop the tools to go into the classroom and be confident about their skills, and hopefully, eventually, go on with their education, and ultimately their future, without a tutor. My greatest strength in tutoring is that I know that there are multiple ways to look at the same information, and…

A tutor should be able to provide clarity in moments of doubt and confusion. Encourage practice and definitely believe in the student. Studying should be made interesting and not one sided as it can turn out to be really fun. I am extremely patient and organized. I will be planning notes and classes to make sure that we are always one step ahead…

All good very happy with Dorcus!
Christine, Mont Albert North

Inside Mont Albert NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Daniel focused on geometry, specifically learning to identify similar triangles by comparing side ratios and angles, as well as distinguishing congruent triangles using side lengths and angle properties.

In Year 5, Anna practised reading comprehension with texts like "Healthy Muscles Matter," answering questions and summarising key ideas.

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Oliver strengthened his grammar skills by exploring contractions and common nouns through sentence exercises.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 English, missing recent classes meant one student faced a test without having covered all required concepts. As a tutor noted, "it's easy to feel overwhelmed with limited prep time," and gaps in content made targeted revision challenging before the assessment.

In Year 5 writing tasks, skipping instructions led to avoidable errors—he would "jump into the exercises prior to reading", which cost time correcting simple mistakes instead of practicing new skills.

For a Year 3 student, incomplete homework built up; when trying to catch up, he struggled to keep pace and became frustrated during review sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Mont Albert North tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student's approach to geometry: after previously needing step-by-step guidance, she now independently spots hidden shapes and applies ratios to similar triangles with just brief prompts.

In a recent Year 8 session, a student who used to second-guess himself on grammar tasks has begun finishing punctuation exercises without hesitation, double-checking his work only once before moving on.

Meanwhile, a primary student surprised his tutor by expanding dot points into sentences during the lesson planning stage—something he'd resisted doing on his own until this week.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Jacinta is awesome!  Grace has connected well with her, and even after 3 sessions we can see an improvement (in her methods and her confidence).  Grace had Year 9 exams this week and felt better prepared.  I can honestly say this has been the best investment I could have made for Grace!

I thought you would like to know that Matilda got the highest mark in her class for her end of year Math exam 83%. We were so thrilled and it gave her a huge confidence boost! I would like to thank you and Erin and we look forward to continuing her tutoring next year.

I came to you because I wasn't satisfied with another tutoring company I had my son at. He has attention problems and was unable to grasp basic mathematical concepts. He couldn't add two numbers together if their total came to more than ten, he couldn't tell the time and knew none of his times tables. The other tutoring company tutored in a group and my son  would zone out as soon as the tutor turned their attention to someone else. Their response to this was that he had to get used to distractions. I agree with this but not when I am paying $50 an hour. Your company has been fantastic. Your tutor researched children with attention problems before getting to know my son and used his interests to keep his attention. My son enjoys his tutoring sessions and now knows his times tables, can tell the time and perform complicated (grade 3) equations. It has been money well spent.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Balwyn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Box Hill Senior Secondary College.
