A tutor needs to help the students understand the concepts and the "why" behind the problem. This allows them to be able to solve problems on their own and increase their confidence. Creating a judgment-free and supportive environment, where students can ask questions and mistakes are not punished, is essential for a tutor to help a student…

Ensure they meet there every need and ensure a student is enjoying their learning, because if there not enjoying they won’t do well. Being polite and patient with students is crucial as it may take a while for them to understand but encouraging them and having their back will bring out their confidence and it will show in their results aswell.…

Being a tutor requires a respected relationship between the student and tutor. Being able to understand where their issues with their education stem from enables a better approach to developing their knowledge. By being both friendly and approachable in conjunction with professionalism allows for an open and judgement free environment which…

Instilling students with a positive mindset towards and passion for learning is critical to ensure they are engaged and willing to learn. I always encourage students and build their confidence, because a strong and flexible mindset is so important and can be carried throughout the pupil's education. During lessons, I am actively paying attention…

I think a successful tutor encourages a love of learning and can motivate a student to continue beyond initial challenges. I can explain things clearly. I also believe I am good at setting people at ease - I'm approachable, and I know what it's like to be the shy…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to create a safe and encouraging learning environment, build the student’s confidence, and help them develop independent learning skills. Beyond explaining content, a tutor should listen carefully, be patient, and adapt their teaching to the student’s needs. By doing so, a…

tutor must give 100% knowledge on the subjects tutor must clear their doubts immediately and they should be available for students for clearing doubts. tutors must work harder with students to improve their marks and teach them clearly. Listening to the needs of the child will also help you to better understand the student’s situation so that…

I think the most important things a tutor can do is listen attentively, and bring excitement into each session. Tutoring is more listening to the areas in which the student is confused rather than trying to explain everything. It is also essential to have enthusiasm about topics, because if you aren’t interested in a subject then the student who…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make the subject matter they are teaching enjoyable to learn. This is important because learning should be something we actively engage in and if a tutor can make it so the students seek out learning more readily then they have already succeeded in some sense. As a tutor my strengths are…

Inside Mount NelsonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Cameron worked on planning and structuring a movie review using the TEEL paragraph format, and also brainstormed ideas for an essay about a class novel.

In Year 12 Chemistry, Aimee revised Food Chemistry through detailed practice exam questions she'd attempted in advance, then completed targeted revision of Fuels and Electrolysis topics based on her recent practice responses.

Meanwhile, Charli (Year 12 Biology) focused on Evolution by reviewing class notes and tackling relevant exam-style questions to strengthen understanding before her SAC.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student in English often hesitated to begin creative writing, stalling at the first draft due to doubt—she avoided launching her ideas until she felt certain. This meant promising concepts were left undeveloped on the page.

In senior Chemistry (Year 12), another student struggled with complex multi-step problems; she became overwhelmed by detail and overcomplicated questions, leading to incomplete answers and missed marks.

For a Year 7 learner, messy punctuation work and frequent grammatical errors made reviewing drafts difficult and slowed progress when editing final versions. These habits resulted in missed opportunities for deeper understanding or confident exam preparation.

Recent Achievements

One Mount Nelson tutor noticed a real shift in Aimee's approach to Chemistry: after struggling with equilibrium questions, she started speaking up whenever she wasn't sure and, just last week, applied the method independently to correctly answer a question she'd previously missed.

Meanwhile, Charli has become much more proactive in her Biology sessions; instead of hesitating when stuck, she now asks clarifying questions and highlights areas of difficulty for targeted help.

In Year 7 English, Scarlett tackled a challenging punctuation exercise designed for older students and spotted all nine errors with barely any assistance.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are very happy, I have referred 3 families at this stage to you. I am impressed with how thorough Monica's lesson plans are, and how they move clearly from low order thinking to high order thinking in a fun way.

My son Matthew has been a student of Arda's here in Perth. Arda has been fantastic and helped Matthew through the difficulties he was having. Matthew has achieved 93% in his last exam and his class tests have all been consistently high.

It is a great pleasure for us too, to see Vas enjoying his lessons, and trying his utmost hardest to listen and catch up. This is all due to Jake too, he is a very big favourite to Vas, he loves his lessons with him, as he explains everything they are doing till Vas understands.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as State Library of Tasmania—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hobart College.
