Inside MundijongTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Devang worked on identifying and writing compound-complex sentences using examples from "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," and also practiced correct use of plural/singular nouns during editing activities.

In Year 10, Kana focused on improving essay structure for upcoming ATAR exams, including reviewing how to develop thesis statements and paragraph organisation, as well as refining grammar with a focus on comma usage and commonly misspelled words.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student reviewed index laws and strategies for efficient division and multiplication, along with practicing algebraic manipulation in preparation for assessments.

Recent Challenges

Several high school students needed significant prompting to organize materials and complete assigned homework before sessions; one Year 11 English student arrived without her exam script, while a Year 8 boy misplaced both his notebook and homework.

As noted in Year 10 Maths, "she erased correct fraction answers, second-guessing herself instead of trusting her calculations," which slowed progress on mixed numbers.

A Year 7 student repeatedly skipped over unfamiliar words in comprehension tasks until redirected to reread carefully—missing key details as a result.

Meanwhile, an upper primary student struggled to edit sentences for flow and coherence, defaulting to inserting full stops rather than restructuring ideas.

Recent Achievements

One Mundijong tutor saw a high school student go from dreading algebra to actually tackling factorising questions with minimal prompting; after some practice, she recognised the "extra step" in solving for pronumerals—something that had confused her previously.

Another secondary student who struggled to add fractions using the lowest common denominator broke through after drawing diagrams and working problems both visually and numerically, demonstrating new independence by finishing practice sets on her own.

In primary, one younger learner who used to rush through reading now pauses to sound out unfamiliar words, asks questions when stuck, and read two extra pages solo this week.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We have been very pleased with the approach Darrell has used with our daughter. He has been very personable and works at developing a relationship with our daughter while teaching her. She has responded well and feels more confident with her maths skills. She received positive feedback from her teacher after only two sessions with Darrell and she is confidently waiting for the results of her test. Darrell has always been polite, on time and communicates well with us. We appreciate his support.

Joseph is a legend.  The feedback from Max has been great, and what he is doing is excellent.   I am really impressed with his work and the effect it seems to be having. Thanks!

Oscar is finding the tutoring very helpful in realizing he is able to "do maths". He is feeling a lot more positive in general at this time and we hope that the gradual improvement he makes will continue to provide a source of self belief and positive thinking. He is very comfortable working with Kirsty and is keen to continue with her.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mundijong Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mundijong Primary School.
