The most important things a maths tutor can do for a student is be consistent, positive and a guidance for the student throughout their studies. It is through these attributes that a student can truly benefit from the teachings and have a willingness to learn and understand the concepts taught by the tutor. Prior to anything a maths tutor must undertand the student's goals and objectives. It is only after this that the tutor should then understand what kind of person the student is, motivational factors behind the interest in learning, and how to communicate more effectively when transfering knowledge. The student's personality is also a key…

The most important thing that a maths tutor can do for a student is to create an environment which will enable them to feel comfortable while studying and be a good listener and teach a student how to learn. One of the most important skills I believe a maths tutor can develop is the art of explaining material in different ways. Often, when students struggle to understand some concept, explaining the material in the same way repeatedly does not help. The key then is to try approaching the material in different ways until the student can grasp it. Past…

The number one thing is being supportive and being there for the student no matter what. I believe having a shoulder to lean on that doesn't criticize but also has a slight push is crucial for a positive relationship between tutor and tutee. Said relationship can increase the pupil's confidence, enthusiasm to work in an academic setting and…

I think the most important thing is persistence. If the tutor isn’t motivated to help the student, the student won’t be motivated either. I also think it’s necessary for a maths tutor to try to explain things in different ways with patience ensuring the student understands. I am very passionate about maths, I am also very persistent and have…

A tutor should not just teach, but they should listen to their students, seek feedback and use that to improve their teaching. It is important to develop trust with students so that they feel comfortable asking questions, expressing their concerns and identifying topics that they may want to strengthen. In doing so, the tutor can gain a greater…

I think the most important thing a maths tutor can do for a student is to support them without judgement. Having both been the tutee and the tutor, I believe that it is imperative that a maths tutor is supportive of the student and caters their teaching to the student's specific needs. A tutor needs to provide their student with support, tools, skills and most importantly understanding of how they can effectively approach their studies and achieve the best possible results they can. Personally, I believe that in order to be a good tutor it is necessary to provide a level of support that feels as if it extends beyond the obligation that the position you hold is your job. One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is give them a personalised teaching experience. A tutor can provide deeper and specific pedagogical learning support for students to hope them reach their learning goals. A student might not get enough one-on-one time with a classroom teacher in a regular classroom setting. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to accompany them upon their academic journey, and helping them along the way. Inside NarrabeenTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Sienna worked through times tables, addition and subtraction, plus tackled word problems to strengthen number sense.

In Year 9, Josh focused on graphing linear equations and solving systems of two equations.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Emily reviewed surds and practiced factorising and expanding quadratic expressions, using step-by-step examples for clarity.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student working on rationalisation in algebra often rushed, skipping steps and losing track of logical progression—"it is important his setting out is logical and able to be followed as he progresses," noted the tutor.

In Year 11, time management issues during past test reviews meant planning was inconsistent, with key questions left unfinished under pressure.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student sometimes avoided drawing large diagrams or writing clearly in geometry, leading to confusion when revisiting their work.

A Year 3 learner struggled to recall times tables without written support, which slowed problem-solving during complex addition tasks.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Narrabeen recently saw a Year 10 student, who previously hesitated to check her own work, begin identifying her mistakes during topic tests and explaining how she'd approach those questions differently next time.

In a high school session, another student who often relied on prompts started attempting practice questions independently for an upcoming assessment without waiting for hints, showing new initiative.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who struggled with times tables earlier now writes all of them out independently on paper and solves multi-step subtraction equations with far less support than before.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

My son was struggling with maths at school and felt that he was falling behind his peers. He asked if he could have a maths tutor. My neighbors recommended EzyMath so we decided to give them a try. The tutor we got was reliable and approachable.  He had a quiet and patient mannor and always encouraged my son to work things out for himself. My son never complained about having his maths tuition, which surprised me! After a couple of months of maths tuition from EzyMath I had a phone call from my son's maths teacher at school to say that he had done so well in his year 10 exams that he suggested my son choose Maths methods as one of his subjects for year 11.  This would definitely not have happened without the tuition he received from EzyMath. Thanks for all your help. It was a very positive experience.

We are very happy with Joshua. He is young and energetic and seems to catch my kid's attention. His English is excellent and he has a very pleasing polite manner.

Ezy maths was very quick in finding the right tutor for my daughter, who is doing her HSC this year. Joyce was very well organized, caring, knowledgeable and used great techniques. Matilda was very happy with her and learned a lot. Ezy Maths gave us helpful hints on how to be prepared and what to expect from a tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Dee Why Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Rose Catholic Primary School.
