The most important thing a Tutor can do for a student is help them to confidently unlock the door to their own learning potential. I aim to show students the way towards understanding the way they learn and see the world. Once a person understands their own mind, they can take control of their own learning and come across their own methods of…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to guide them and give them strategies so they are able to learn and comprehend material with less assistance over time. I also think it is important to assist them in a way that gets them thinking, whether that is by asking them questions or working through problems so they can…

I believe the most important thing is to encourage the student to be excited about learning and to support them throughout their studies. If you're excited to learn, you will be willing to do the work and therefore be more successful, which further motivates a person. My strengths as a tutor are that I will be persistent with the student and…

The most important thing a tutor can do is gravitate students toward learning by making them curious. A tutor should try to make learning an activity that students should look forward to. As tutors it is paramount to make sure that the learnings are not just marks-centric but a means to accomplishing more. Tutoring is skill which requires…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to help them better understand the material they are learning and to really engage with it. Tutors have the ability to be one on one with students and they can really transform a students perspective and views on a particular subject for the better. My strengths as a tutor…

Being patient when it comes to the student's pace of learning; different students learn at different rates, and some learn from different methods than others. Being patient, and figuring out what learning style best suits them is what I feel, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student. Being timely in replying to student's queries or…

Good grades would be the obvious answer. However, if I can spark an interest in the subject for the student the grades will logically follow. A strength would definitely be communication, I find that I can easily get my point across eloquently. I also take pride in my etiquette and friendliness. A weakness that I can see being an issue is lesson…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can pass onto a student is confidence in that learning area, as confidence can act as a motivator for improvement. Whilst helping a pupil to overcome their challenges is definitely required, I think that providing students with the tools to overcome similar, future problems is far more effective, as…

The most important thing would be to be able to encourage and motivate the student. The tutor should be able to help the students with any difficulty or problem that they may have. As such, the tutor should also ensure that there is effective commuication between him and his/her student so that the latter can ask any questions without hesitation.…

A tutor is there as a guide, not to replace the teacher. A tutor should help a student not just with the topic at hand, but also allow for the student to grow and be able to solve problems and learn effectively on their own in the future. To nurture and help them grow as an individual not as a student. To encourage them even when they fail and to help them love the subject of interest instead of seeing it as a daunting task that they hate. I understand the requirements and needs to excel. Inside NedlandsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Sofia worked on identifying and using nouns, adverbs, verbs, and adjectives in English, alongside practicing multiplication tables for 4, 6, 7, 8, and 12.

In Year 8, Chloe focused on understanding isomorphic graphs and adjacency matrices in preparation for an upcoming test.

For Year 10, Daniel tackled Pythagoras' Theorem by finding hypotenuse lengths as well as working through problems requiring calculation of unknown side lengths given the hypotenuse.

Recent Challenges

In recent lessons, a Year 9 student did not complete assigned homework and sometimes brought only answers rather than full working, which made it hard to pinpoint where understanding was lost.

A tutor noted, "He relied on mental maths for division instead of writing steps," leading to repeated errors in basic calculations.

In Year 11 Maths Methods, messy written work during standard deviation questions meant time was wasted hunting for calculation slips instead of focusing on new concepts.

Another senior student skipped practicing harder problems and depended heavily on calculators before attempting questions by hand, especially under exam pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Nedlands noticed that a Year 10 student who used to get stuck on worded trigonometry questions is now breaking down each part independently and double-checking his steps, which wasn't happening a few weeks ago.

Another recent high school session saw Chloe challenge herself by working through matrices unaided for the first time, showing she's comfortable relying on her own skills.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who previously hesitated to ask for help with tricky multiplication now openly checks his thinking out loud and requests clarification whenever he's unsure.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Nedlands Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Nedlands Primary School.
