Give the student hope that they are able to do achieve something. I am that person where if u promise someone something that you know won't be achieved will damage that students confidence more than saying 'I can't promise anything, but I will try my absolute hardest to get you to your destination'. By giving students hope, and belief that they…

One of the most vital things a tutor should do is ensure that he is understood teaching-wise and that he understands his pupils perfectly. One thing that some teachers don't have is empathy for the unique condition of a student. A student's ability to learn can be affected in various ways, like by his surroundings and so on. It is significantly…

A tutor should provide comprehensive feedback for students once they understand specific problems students are having. They perhaps can offer solutions to problems students are struggling with. I have familiarised myself with and completed the VCE courses and STEM subjects, so I would have a decent understanding of how to work with students…

In my high school days, i went to alot of tutors and i learned the difference between a good and a bad tutor. Bad tutors i believe stay within the box, afraid to go out and expose the students true potential. A good tutor can not only help the student keep on track of school work and assist in any difficulties the student may have, but also push…

Most important thing you can do for a student is not to teach a lesson, but give them a reason to learn the lesson. Make everything a piece of cake and fun. Teaching can be mostly boring and overwhelming especially when you are at the receiving end. I would know as i have always had trouble grasping concepts presented by the so called qualified…

In my mind, not only a tutor provides knowledge for a student but also brings out their best characteristics. During the teaching procedures, a tutor can help student to learn better the subject, be fond of it, and through that teaches them social skills or practical application. Through my past experience as a teaching assistant, I develop my…

Paying attention on them. A student sometimes have fear and won't ask their doubts. As tutors we must pay attention to them and see what they need. If not the students won't achieve their goals. Be understanding. We are all part of the learning process, both the student and the tutor. Respect the student and respect the tutor. I like to teach 1-on-1 simply because I can try and personalize the manner in which I teach the student, to help them understand concepts in their own way. Additionally, I believe that I am quite emotionally…

I believe that a good tutor has the the ability to help students build confidence for the classroom, and inspire them to be the best that they can be. Another thing that is important to me is not belittling the student or making them feel "stupid" for not understanding, but instead relating to them and helping them find a different way to solve…

Empathy: Understand how the student is feeling or understood a particular concept based on their behavioural and body language cues. This is because most students do not give explicit feedback. Understanding the student's learning pace: Every student is unique and have their own pace of learning. As a tutor you need to adapt to that. I am…

For a tutor, the most important thing is to increase the curiosity of the student, for the subject that they are learning. Exams are important. However, at the end of the day I believe, the knowledge gained through the subject matter is far more important because it is something that can help to shape the future of the student. For example,…

Student's improvement. I would like to raise the student's attitude toward the subject by , for example, giving them the applications and examples of the theories. Local Reviews

Called me back within hours of my inquiry, and I had a local arrive a few days later. Petar is an excellent tutor - patient, and capable of explaining things a few different ways to ensure my daughter understood. He offered many strategies, and allowed her to choose the one she found most effective. He has also identified a root cause of the problem which, thankfully, has a simple solution. We can't thank and recommend Petar enough.

Inside NiddrieTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Tyler focused on recognising and working with 7-digit numbers, understanding place value, and was introduced to area and perimeter concepts through targeted maths activities.

Year 5 student Sami practiced identifying grammatical errors in texts and completed a variety of maths questions including fractions, multiplication, and units of measurement as part of homework tasks.

For Year 4, Annabelle worked on strengthening her multiplication skills using school worksheets and spent time editing her ongoing creative writing project.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4, one student often rushed through money calculations in 'shop and change' activities, leading to overlooked details. "She tended to rush her answers with these tasks," noted the tutor, making it hard for her to spot small errors.

In a Year 7 maths session, a student tried sneaking in a calculator instead of attempting mental strategies; after removing it, focus and accuracy improved.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 learner struggled to keep up with homework completion during weeks when unwell, which left gaps that showed up in later percentage questions. These moments slowed real progress on new concepts.

Recent Achievements

One Niddrie tutor noticed that Sami now tackles multiple homework tasks independently and even requests extra literacy games as a reward—previously, he needed reminders just to stay on track.

Another secondary student, Tyler, moved from struggling with percentage calculations to confidently working out 10% of various numbers by the end of the session, using strategies built up over recent weeks.

For Year 3–4s, Charlotte has started asking for harder maths problems herself and reads aloud unfamiliar words by chunking them—last term she hesitated when faced with new vocabulary but now finishes sets of sums without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Jennifer has been amazing. Lily will miss her weekly sessions - she has learned a lot because of Jennifers quietly persistent style.

The tutoring is going great. Bryce is great and has made a great connection with Ethan. Ethan looks forward to his session and he is already feeling more confident with his maths. Bryce was the perfect choice for Ethan.

aura is doing very well with Sasha and I am very happy with the way she is teaching Sasha.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moonee Valley Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like St John Bosco's School.
