Most importantly, the tutor should be able to help the student achieve their desired academic results whilst under the tutor's tutelage, as this is the whole purpose of being a tutor. However, it is almost equally important to instill confidence in a student, that they will feel comfortable enough to step out of their comfort zones. More often…

I believe that there are two crucial things that tutors can and should do for students. Firstly, each tutor should present the rationale and the logic while explaining new concepts to students rather than make them memorize and automatically follow the rules or steps. Students should understand what they do and that is the responsibility of…

Guide them and help them build their confidence as they learn. To a degree, that allows them to then learn on their own and become independent. I feel that the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to act as a source of information throughout their time of studying. I can listen. A tutor is there to accommodate the student's needs, and no high ATAR is going to mean anything if they can't. In general, emotional intelligence is very important for tutors. We have had a very positive experience with ezymath. A great tutor who is good with my son, no hassles at all. It just works.
Fiona, Warrandyte

Inside North WarrandyteTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Shaan practised adding and subtracting fractions, as well as consolidating times tables for stronger number skills.

In Year 8, Emily worked on solving linear equations and learned to rearrange formulas step-by-step.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student focused on mastering quadratic factorisation using the cross method and applied the Pythagorean theorem to solve geometry problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly skipped reading worded questions in algebra and geometry carefully, leading to misinterpreted problems—one tutor wrote, "He missed the key variable needed because he didn't re-read the question."

In Year 11 Maths Methods, another student relied on calculator input for quadratic equations without showing written working; when a sign error occurred, it was hard to spot and fix.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner struggled with times tables and tended to avoid attempting harder multiplication tasks in revision sessions. This made practice uneven and left them less prepared for new topics.

Recent Achievements

One North Warrandyte tutor recently saw a big shift in Orlando, who used to hesitate with rearranging equations but now confidently tackles them on his own—last session, he solved every practice question without needing prompts.

In a Year 10 lesson, Oliver showed real progress by not just remembering the Pythagorean theorem but applying it independently to new problems, something he'd struggled with before.

Meanwhile, Noah in Year 3 surprised his tutor by listening closely and jumping straight into each challenge without waiting for reassurance, finishing all ten maths problems before time was up.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

The tutoring process through Ezy Math follows predetermined guidelines and criteria that enables a rewarding experience for both the tutor and student and provides adequate assistance for steady student learning.

Nohemi is great. A very professional tutor with an easy going personality. Brayden has found her lessons quite helpful and has no issues with her teaching methods. As school returns from holidays this week we will see how successful tutoring has been (to-date). If nothing else, I do believe Nohemi has increased his confidence in Algebra.

Both yannick and lanah had their second lesson with Rachel on Monday and I am very happy with  the way it is going. They are comfortable with her and feel they can communicate well with her.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Warrandyte Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Warrandyte Primary School.
