Tutoring is mainly about facilitating the students understanding of concepts, but the tutor should also aim to foster a drive in the student to understand why they are struggling with the respective topic and a will to seek a solution on their own. The tutor should eventually seek to equip students with self-awareness and a drive for…

Inside PananiaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Lucas worked on converting fractions to decimals and percentages, as well as understanding probability by assigning chances on a number line.

For Year 9, Sarah practised solving quadratic equations both by factorising and using the quadratic formula.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Michael focused on financial maths topics including calculating income, overtime, and commission with real-world examples.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 mathematics, one student's algebra working was "messy and hard to follow," making it difficult to trace errors—especially when multiplying with negatives.

During a Year 11 timed English task, another student struggled to interpret questions and showed little experience with exam pacing, resulting in incomplete responses.

In a Year 5 session, the urge for perfection led to over-erasing and hiding mistakes instead of correcting them openly; this slowed progress during division drills.

When confidence dipped in Year 4 maths, motivation lagged: "He hesitated on timestables, often pausing mid-question," leaving newer concepts unpracticed as anxiety set in.

Recent Achievements

One Panania tutor noticed a Year 10 student who had previously mixed up formulas is now reliably using the correct method to calculate gross and net income, even in tricky worded questions.

In Year 8 maths, a student who used to rush through factorising binomials is taking time to check each step—last session, he caught and fixed his own mistake without prompting.

Meanwhile, in primary sessions, a Year 4 student who hesitated with times tables now jumps confidently between 3s and 8s by using "jumping points" for recall; she finished her set of multiplication problems with no help needed.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Both Thomasine and Luke are liking Scott as well. He has always been on time and is very polite. Jonathan and I can't believe our luck!

Adele is very happy with Irina. We have already seen results. In her last in class quiz, she came 5th in the class. An improvement from a few weeks ago when Adele got 3/15 for the class quiz.

We have just had our first session with John and I am writing to let you know how impressed I am with John. He was on time, polite and dressed professionally . His calm manner with Oliver was great. Oliver really enjoyed it and liked John very much . I am looking forward to many more positive sessions that result in Oliver improving .

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Panania Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Christopher's Catholic Primary School.
