The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence and help them become independent learners. It’s not just about helping with homework or test prep — it’s about teaching them how to think, ask questions, and solve problems on their own. A good tutor creates a safe and encouraging space where the student feels…

Everything went well yesterday, the lesson helped with my test preparation for the test I had today. It went really well and Caitlin was a great tutor.

Inside Pentland HillsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Arya worked on mastering addition and subtraction of integers as well as practicing squares and square roots through targeted exercises.

In Year 10, Olivia focused on expanding binomial equations such as (a+b)^2 and (a-b)^2, and also learned to recognise and apply the difference of two squares pattern.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Marcus tackled calculations involving the heat released by combustion reactions in fuels, using specific heat capacity formulas and interpreting HNMR spectra to identify hydrogen environments within organic molecules.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often left homework incomplete, which made it harder to recall prior topics during revision quizzes—"she had not completed the homework I assigned to her last week," a tutor noted.

In Year 10 Chemistry, hesitation and low motivation appeared when tackling complex fuel questions, leading to skipped calculations and second-guessing correct methods.

Meanwhile, a senior Biology student avoided answering confidently unless prompted and struggled to connect new material with previously learned content, sometimes leaving exam-style questions blank if unsure.

The result: progress slowed as each missed step or unanswered question left key gaps unaddressed for the next lesson.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Pentland Hills noticed a big change in one Year 10 student, who used to quietly guess when stuck but now actively asks for clarification during sessions—she recently improved her quiz score from 8/14 to 12/17 and completed it more quickly.

Another high school student showed real initiative by coming prepared with her own notes and tackling homework she'd previously left unfinished, even taking the lead in discussions on graphing equations.

In a younger class, a Year 4 student who once hesitated now eagerly volunteers answers during group exercises, especially when working through matching activities.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Kelly is a fantastic tutor & lovely person who clicked with Emily immediately and Emily noticed her own improvement within days. Emily sat her Maths semester exam 3 weeks later after having Kelly there was a big improvement!!! Thank you for referring Kelly to Emily and we look forward to having her tutor Emily for as long as we can!

Working at EzyMath Tutoring is really rewarding. I have been able to work with students to build their confidence and evolve them into independent learners. You build relationships and trust with students so they feel comfortable with you - even if it is saying they don't understand! It's amazing to see them improve their maths skills with increased confidence. Even better is seeing them smile and light up with excitement when they tell you of their great achievements at school.

Eshan has been a great help to Georgina over the sessions she has seen him and she felt much more confident preparing for her mid-year exams (Y9).  I think she will get an A overall for maths this semester which is great given both math exams were quite difficult and the average score was much lower. She has also been asked to join the enrichment maths group from the beginning of next term.  Although Georgina is a little apprehensive about the step up, she knows it is a great opportunity to get exposure to more difficult work before things really step up a bit in Y10.  The school is very happy with her results and I feel confident that she will continue to do well, with the right support.  I feel there is much more potential upside for her to be gained through ongoing tutoring and it will be great to have Eshan's support as Georgina joins the enrichment stream at school next term.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lederderg Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Myrniong Primary School.
