Provide a love for learning. Schools are centered around competition and grades which do the exact opposite, but if you want students to enjoy learning and to continue enjoying it after they've graduated your class you want to teach them in a way that is engaging, relevant, and understandable. I believe the best way is to teach them the bare…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is provide a supportive and encouraging learning environment. A tutor should help students feel comfortable asking questions, adapt their teaching to students' needs, and make learning feel more approachable. I also believe its important to help students develop a strong understanding of concepts so…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to inspire confidence, foster independent thinking, and make the subject approachable. These can be done by providing clear explanations and creating a supportive environment. My strengths as a tutor include my ability to break down complex mathematical concepts into simple, understandable…

I believe that as a tutor, what I can help with most is finding out the missing links in the knowledge network of my students and helping them to make those up. No matter at what point my students start, I think my job is to help them realise they can always make progress from there and reach a more advanced level. I am good at guiding students to…

It is most important to provide a comfortable space for students to make errors and learn, while also providing the motivation and space for studying to be completed. I focus on relatability but have also completed my QCE with relatively good grades and understand high school content. On top of this I have limited energy for tomfoolery, while…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to help them truly understand the content, and to help build the student's self confidence. I would characterise my strengths as the following: - Patient: I am a very patient teacher, and don't mind explaining the same concept multiple times in different ways—as it's important to be…

I think the most important things a tutor can do would be to be patient, and to cater for each specific student. If a tutor is unable to adapt to each student, the purpose of one-on-one tutoring is nullified. I think I am good at adapting my teaching approach depending on the specific student, and explaining things in multiple different ways…

Whilst ensuring the student learns or develops topics/skills is important, fostering an interest and curiosity in the subject is more important in my opinion. Through the support of teachers and students in my schooling I have grown a deep interest in maths, science and literature, which makes study and learning these subjects easy! I am patient,…

Paying attention on them. A student sometimes have fear and won't ask their doubts. As tutors we must pay attention to them and see what they need. If not the students won't achieve their goals. For the less motivated students, a tutor can help them gain interest in the subject, which I think is the most important thing for a learner. For most of the students, a tutor should be a guide to lead them to pick up knowledge points bit by bit and finally have a general clear map of them. I am quite good at being with people, no matter what…

I believe that having flexibility in teaching methods is very important for a tutor. Not all students are able to understand concepts in the same way so being able to look at things from the student's perspective and help them understand really helps a students journey and increases their trust and confidence. Sometimes, this means using different…

My philosophy as a tutor is productivity over hard work. Tutors shouldn't just provide step answers for students to memorise, take their assessments and then forget it afterwards but, instead, should provide guidance and advice for students to understand the necessary steps and concepts leading to that solution. I understand that everyone learns…

The most important things a tutor can do for students is to teach as well as keep them motivated on their progress. very happy with the tutor I have for my daughters. Ezy-math obviously employ top notch tutors. I cannot fault the girl we have, she has a natural ability for teaching and does it in a way that my daughters readily understand. Well worth the money as my daughters marks in both Mathematics and Chemistry have vastly improved.

Inside Princes HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Mila focused on adding and subtracting decimals as well as solving fraction problems using number lines.

For Year 9, Liam worked through quadratic equations—factoring, graphing parabolas, and translating their positions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ruby practised statistics by creating box plots and calculating mean and standard deviation from real data sets.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 Maths, one student showed reluctance to write out answers for trend analysis in graph questions—"sometimes reluctant in describing the trends (which I'm sure he knows but too tired to write them down)"—leading to incomplete responses.

A Year 11 student struggled with submitting assessments on time, missing deadlines and sometimes not attempting all required tasks.

In a Year 4 session, a child forgot their textbook, which limited progress during tutoring.

Another senior student relied heavily on hints for advanced problems rather than trying multiple strategies first, often pausing whenever a new method was introduced.

Recent Achievements

One Princes Hill tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to rush through questions is now carefully writing down every step when solving quadratics, leading to fewer errors and quicker solutions.

In a recent session with a Year 9 student, the tutor saw real improvement as she started tackling worded fraction problems independently—something she hesitated with before.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner who once waited for prompts has begun asking thoughtful questions about upcoming topics, showing new initiative in her learning. Last week, she asked to try material ahead of her class for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brunswick Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Princes Hill Secondary College.
