I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not just help them academically, but be there for them emotionally, helping them to understand themselves and giving them the resources to learn lifelong skills that they will carry into their work life and future. My strengths are that I am an active listener, patient, respectful,…

I believe it is important to address the student's main academic concerns by understanding their goals and deriving a plan to achieve those goals. Following which, it will be essential to chart the student's progress and be flexible in changing the lesson programs to enable targetted improvement. I believe that I can empathize with students that…

For me, the most important thing to do as a tutor is not only help teach class content, but share study skills, time management, note taking tips, and other ways to manage the Year 12 workload. Year 12 is not purely about knowledge, but handling pressure and staying on top of work, and I hope to communicate my experience in this. Throughout my…

Try different methods as everyone is different, find something that is tailored for the student to help them excel more. I am very patient so I can explain multiple times with different methods until my student fully understands the topic. I have studied overseas so I have different approaches to the same question. I can speak English and Chinese…

To help a student fully understand what they are learning about. To not only teach them concepts but also try to make them enjoy learning. I believe building a relationship with the student is one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student, as it allows the tutor to recognize that each student has their own unique learning styles. These can only be identified during a session when a rapport between the student and tutor is established, and once this connection is made…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence in their subjects. Inside RandwickTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ben practised **elapsed time questions** and worked on identifying and drawing 2D and 3D shapes.

Year 7 student William focused on solving **algebraic equations**, including collecting like terms, as well as applying **Pythagoras' theorem** to problem-solving tasks.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student revised surface area and volume of prisms and cylinders, alongside tackling **advanced factorisation using the difference of two squares formula**.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student was hesitant to apply structured working in algebra, preferring mental calculation—he was hesitant to do so—which made it harder to spot method errors during factorisation tasks.

In Year 10 biology, another student avoided asking questions when unsure about cell organelles, making it tough to address misunderstandings on the spot.

A younger learner (Year 4) sometimes left homework incomplete, especially with worded problems that introduced new formats.

One secondary student became distracted mid-lesson (she can get easily distracted, taking her away from the work), which slowed progress through problem-solving practice and left some review tasks unfinished by session's end.

Recent Achievements

One Randwick tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to hesitate when facing tricky probability questions now bringing his own challenging examples to sessions and breaking them down into clear steps without prompting.

Another high schooler, previously unsure about multi-step algebra problems, surprised himself by flying through practice sets and even correcting his own errors with negative numbers before the tutor stepped in.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student who often rushed through work has started pausing to plan out answers, showing real care with working out—he finished last lesson by neatly solving every multiplication question and checking his methods independently.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We very happy with tutor Sean. He is a very good tutor. Melissa is happy Sean is her tutor.

I am very impressed with Nikki and the way in which your company operates. Emily had a session with Nikki on Monday in preparation for her algebra topic test on Tuesday and she received 72%!! She would normally get in the 40s for this type of test maybe less for algebra. We are reaping the rewards of Nikki's tutoring already. Very pleased indeed and Nikki is also a great role model for Emily in the way she presents herself and her attitude to life in general. Thank you for your exceptional service.

Peilin is fantastic! They get along extremely well and Peilin is very encouraging.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Randwick Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Marcellin College.
