I believe that cultivating critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and a growth mindset are important. A tutor should inspire curiosity, instill confidence, and equip students with the tools they need to become independent learners. Moreover, fostering a positive and supportive relationship built on trust and mutual respect is…

I have a positive attitude even when the student is wrong, I correct them by not saying that they were wrong but by picking up the same topic and explaining it in the correct manner. Instead of spoon-feeding all the information, I expect students to brainstorm ideas. I motivate the student to think in various aspects which would help them broaden…

A tutor's main goal should be to help the student develop the tools to go into the classroom and be confident about their skills, and hopefully, eventually, go on with their education, and ultimately their future, without a tutor. My greatest strength in tutoring is that I know that there are multiple ways to look at the same information, and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them feel confident enough in themselves and their abilities to succeed. A tutor should not simply give the answers to their students, but do what they can to provide the support for the students to reach the correct answers themselves. I am very patient; if a student cannot find the…

A tutor should always listen to the student and work with their unique set of needs. Learning should always happen in a fun and motivating environment which engages the student. This may mean getting to know more about the student on a personal level so that I can make the study content relevant to the student's particular interests. I have a…

That is easy. The most important thing is to inspire them and engage their curiosity. To be more interesting than a teacher trying to teach a class, and to show the student /s that learning is beneficial, fun, and not-dreary schoolwork. Gamification can be used here, and exposing the student to new texts above the level they are used to, so as to…

To help encourage them to try there best. Everyone wants 100% but they may not necessarily get it. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make the student love a subject because if this happens, the improvement will follow mechanically. It is wise for a tutor to instill within the student a sense of excitement and confidence. Excitement stems from a meaningful process of learning, and confidence comes about at the solving of the process. Also important is the establishment of a pleasant rapport with the student. A tendency to burn the candle at both ends has in the past…

Active listening. I believe this is the most important trait and thing a tutor can do for a student. This is because our role is to educate and a way of guiding students to take in information in the best or most efficient way, and part of that is listening actively to what the student wants out of tutoring sessions and adjusting however possible…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to give them confidence in their abilities. Without confidence, a student may not be able to excel or perform tasks to the best of their abilities. Arman was fabulous, very thorough and explained maths to my daughter in a manner which she was able to grasp easily.
Michelle, Bulleen

Inside RosannaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Charlie focused on adding and subtracting fractions and prepared for an upcoming fractions test using targeted practice.

In Year 8, Emily worked through number patterns, including identifying rules and solving pattern problems involving multiplication and substitution.

For Year 11, Alex tackled least squares regression lines in statistics and reinforced understanding of data transformation concepts by working through example questions together.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 mathematics, one student regularly forgot to bring her calculator and books, which meant she lost valuable practice time in class and sometimes couldn't complete set tasks.

A Year 10 learner struggled with setting out answers clearly—her algebra steps were hard to follow, as a tutor noted: "She skipped showing working out, which hid errors."

Meanwhile, a senior student missed a lesson but did not seek help afterwards, so gaps remained before the next topic began.

In each case, organization or avoidance of visible working led to extra confusion or slower progress during lessons.

Recent Achievements

One Rosanna tutor noted a big shift in a Year 10 student who, after previously hesitating to speak up, now regularly asks for help when confused and finishes most questions without prompting.

In a senior session, Sarah from Year 12 pushed ahead of her class by tackling exam-style matrices problems—she actively asked detailed questions to clarify tricky points, something she rarely did before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student surprised her tutor by spotting number patterns independently; just weeks ago she needed step-by-step guidance for each problem but now often works through the sequences independently.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

we are very pleased with the tutoring sessions Mario is providing. His tutoring has made a significant improvement to our daughters maths grades and has helped to increase our daughter's confidence with maths which she struggled with previously. He is also very patient, polite and punctual.

Definitely i would say that Lamia is a great Tutor and is tutoring Krintel really well, she is quite comfortable with Lamia and is surely getting support from her which she has been waiting for. Thanks once again for introducing Lamia to us.

So far so good. The kids are actually enjoying their time with Agnes so that's s good sign. Jaren came out of last weeks tutorial session saying "well you learn something new everyday". It just gives them more confidence with mathematical concepts, I think they're getting something out of it. Thank you.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Rosanna Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rosanna Primary School.
