The most relevant things when it comes to tutoring are being able to connect with the student in a way that they feel motivated and find the help they need in order to learn. I believe students should have access to meaningful learning. I get along very well with children and teenagers and always find the way to motivate and encourage them to…

Inside TerranoraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Willow focused on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions as well as simplifying them and converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions.

Year 10 student Jeremy reviewed key exam topics including trigonometry (finding side lengths or angles in right triangles) and measurement geometry, with practice on algebra skills such as expanding brackets and factorisation.

For Year 11 Mia, the session concentrated on basic algebra concepts relevant to her new general maths class, using introductory examples to ensure a solid foundation for upcoming coursework.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 maths, one student struggled to prepare for in-depth exam questions after focusing mainly on basic revision; as noted, "I wasn't prepared for the in-depth exam questions." This gap meant complex problems felt overwhelming during sessions.

A Year 8 student frequently forgot to bring paper, which stopped her from working through area calculations—leaving gaps in practice.

In Year 10 algebra, another student skipped showing steps when solving equations with fractions and exponents, making it hard to spot where errors crept in.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student avoided asking for feedback on written work, missing out on improvement opportunities and sometimes repeating similar mistakes.

Recent Achievements

One Terranora tutor noticed a big shift with Jeremy, a high school student who used to hesitate when faced with trigonometry and algebra; now he's reliably solving those problems on his own and only needs an occasional prompt before finishing even complex questions.

In Year 7 maths, Willow has moved from needing reminders for each step with fractions to independently converting and comparing them—last session she finished a grade-level worksheet without help.

Meanwhile, Bella in primary years is showing more initiative: she now actively asks for extra homework, and recently rechecked her own answers on time calculations to spot mistakes herself.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

The tutoring has started really well Sam is very happy with Din and has gotten off to a positive start.

Cameron is turning out to be a great tutor and Mitchell really enjoys the sessions.

Domenic has only had one session with Alvin, but he thinks he is 'awesome'. He likes the tips and tricks Alvin explains for solving maths problems. He's not keen on tutorials over holidays so will continue with more weekly lessons starting next week.
