What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
The moment where a difficult or complex topic starts to click, especially if the student finds it especially hard is the most rewarding moment. I also love when a student who is a self described hater of maths starts to enjoy the subject and gets excited to do the work.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
Being able to recognise the specific parts of a concept that a student is struggling with and breaking that point down. For example teaching the pythagorean theorem involves formula memorisation, sides of a triangle identification and algebra. If the student can continuously identify the formula and the hypotenuse but struggles with the rest then clearly they need algebra practise rather than repeating pythag questions, so that is what I would review and focus on.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Making the student feel comfortable enough to ask what they might consider a silly or 'dumb' question. To me a student must be able to tell me they don't understand so that I can do my job properly. Knowing that they are allowed to make mistakes is important to a learning process and for that they need to be comfortable.
