What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I love how rewarding being a tutor is - seeing the improvement of students over time in both their academic ability and confidence, makes tutoring a win-win situation for both the student and tutor. I also empathise with students who find difficulty in their studies, so being able to share the study methods that unlocked my success in school gives me a sense of satisfaction and purpose.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
Having had lots of experience interacting with girls and boys younger than me throughout my time volunteering at Tara's Before and After School Care, as well as through my leadership roles, I have highly proficient communication skills and can easily adapt to each student's needs. I am optimistic but equally able to act assertively for the student's benefit. I have had informal experience helping my cohort with their math homework, and am confident in my ability to tutor maths for all year levels.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think a tutor must have the student's best interests in mind, for example, allowing more time to work on the student's weaker topics, or providing more homework if necessary. They must be organised before a lesson to assure fluidity and productivity, whether that is preparing the correct materials or reading up on the topics that they are to teach. A tutor must be able to explain concepts clearly, and be able to answer any questions the student may have. Furthermore, a tutor can act as a mentor, providing study tips or other forms of advice to assist the student in their schooling journey.

Often got confused with reading the scales, and needed to understand that each increment on the scale goes up by the same amount.
Is confident with multiplication, and is able to apply what she has learnt to harder questions e.g. 3 digit by 1 digit.

Struggled a bit with long division, which was expected. Will continue to work on it next lesson.

Stumbled a bit at first with the shortcut method of multiplying in columns, but after doing a couple examples with her, Rose managed to finish the last few questions herself which was excellent. Also showed understanding by completing 3 digit by 1 digit multiplication.
More of an observation, but Rose tends to lose focus quite quickly, so I've tried to integrate games at the end of the lesson which has worked okay so far.
After working on a few examples of column multiplication with Rose, she got the hang of it and could do the questions on her own.
After working on a few examples of column multiplication with Rose, she got the hang of it and could do the questions on her own.
I realised Rose still has a habit of counting to perform addition and times table questions, and so we played some games to practice using other strategies like split strategy or using known facts to get unknown facts.
