I believe that the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to understand how they think and explain concepts clearly. I think that tutors should be responsible for knowing what levels their students are at and finding the best ways to make their learning process more engaging as well as guiding them through difficult tasks. Tutors…

It is very important that a tutor can prepare the students with knowledge that they require to perform their best at school. Therefore, in order to achieve such thing, a tutor need to be able to identify where are the students' weaknesses, plan out what method of teaching the tutor can help to improve such weaknesses and ensure to develop a good…

In my personal opinion, I believe a game-changer for students is to have a tutor who helps build their confidence. Rather than only imparting knowledge, a tutor should foster a learning atmosphere that makes students comfortable to ask questions, make mistakes and even question the knowledge of the tutor. My strengths as a tutor include the…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student is providing them with support in different aspects not just academically. I think it’s extremely important for the student to like and have confidence in what they are doing and stay curious for what they are about to learn. That’s why I think a tutor’s support can provide some…

A tutor can customise personalised learning methods for different students, in order to maximise the efficiency of teaching. I consider that a tutor can impact a student's passion towards knowledge through his/ her personal enthusiasm for teaching. The most important thing a tutor can or should do for a student is to change the students perspective towards their subjects in a more positive way, including changing their approaches towards the problematic questions and their end goal of the subjects (from to pass to master the subject). The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach him the problem solving skills, and motivate him to apply his skills on any problem he faces. Tutors need to be understanding and patient while knowing that students may not have the required knowledge to solve a simple question quickly. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to ask them for constant feedback/questions. Hence, it is important as a tutor to actively make sure that your student actually understands what you are teaching. As a…

I had a tutor in high school for my VCE studies. I learned that a tutor must be a supportive figure that guides their student with compassion and patience. A tutor has to be understanding and respectful to the student that they are teaching, they need to realise that these individuals don't have the same level of knowledge as them at the time, so they need time to learn and understand difficult concepts and that require more explanation. The key is to build a strong healthy and friendly relationship…

Inside Voyager PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Lara worked through right-angled trigonometry and bearings, applying diagrams to visualise angle problems.

For Year 8, Ethan practised factorising algebraic fractions and also tackled multiplying and dividing fractions in context.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Michael focused on negative integers—adding, subtracting, and multiplying them—and reviewed strategies for exam-style questions involving these concepts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student working on algebra was observed hesitating before writing answers, often second-guessing herself even when the process was correct; "she needs to be more confident in her calculations," one note read.

In Year 4 maths, there were repeated instances of confusing times tables and forgetting to add a zero in multiplication, causing her to pause mid-problem and check with the tutor for reassurance.

When tackling negative integers in Year 9, confusion set in after -15, slowing progress and increasing uncertainty.

These moments led to lost momentum during lessons and reliance on immediate feedback rather than independent practice.

Recent Achievements

One Voyager Point tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to wait for correction now spotting her own mistakes and trying extra questions without prompting, especially in algebra.

Another high school learner is getting quicker at identifying when to use formulas for similar triangles, and has started explaining his reasoning out loud—something he avoided before.

With a Year 4 student, there's been real progress memorising times tables; she now attempts the 7s and 8s by herself after struggling with recall last term, and last session completed all the division sums independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Panania Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holsworthy Public School.
