Listen to their struggling points and help them step by step to figure out what they're doing wrong and give them some confidence for how to proceed when they're by themselves. Sometimes all that's required is being walked through how to approach and solve a problem. Additionally, giving them resources (or helping them make their own) like notes…

Inside WannanupTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ava worked on adding and subtracting money amounts and finding the correct combination of notes and coins to pay for items, as well as converting between 12-hour and 24-hour time.

In Year 8, Noah practised calculating the surface area of square-based triangular prisms and rectangular prisms while reviewing key exam concepts.

For Year 10, Mia focused on solving linear equations and explored how to graph them by identifying their key features in different scenarios.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student hesitated with converting between 24-hour and 12-hour time, often overlooking small details; "she missed the switch at midday," as one tutor noted, which slowed her test progress.

In Year 10, test time management was a challenge—questions were sometimes left unanalysed or answers rushed without checking, causing easy marks to slip away.

A Year 6 student repeatedly avoided writing out full working for subtraction with borrowing, making it harder to catch calculation errors later.

During homework in Year 9 maths, confusion arose from not showing working when dividing large numbers, leading to uncertainty and second-guessing results.

Recent Achievements

One Wannanup tutor noticed a big change in a Year 10 student who used to skip showing his working, but now carefully writes out each step and double-checks answers after some focused practice on expanding brackets and trigonometry.

In Year 8, another student who often hesitated to ask for help started putting her hand up whenever she was stuck converting fractions to decimals, which made lessons move faster and helped her tackle harder problems by herself.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who previously struggled with understanding time picked up the 24-hour clock so well that he could switch between formats almost error-free by the end of the session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Falcon Library & Community Centre—or at your child's school (with permission), like Falcon Primary School.
