The tutor must be able to understand how the student learns and should be able to change their teaching style according to their student. In addition, a tutor must have a strong knowledge of the concepts and be willing to constantly improve themselves as the curriculum and the technology used in school changes. Being patient is also a crucial…

Being there for a student is one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student. Whilst tutors are there to help guide a student's learning progress, they should also present themselves as a supportive friend. The relationship between a student and tutor is important and aspects like giving general advice, and helping students during…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them see past exams and assessments and really understand what the concepts are and why they are studying them in the first place. I always to go through the theory really well first and subsequently tackle challenging problems and show how to break them into bite-sized pieces. Then…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel listened to and valued. I understand that in a group setting, teachers may not be able to interact and be with a single student at one time, but I want to be a tutor who is present and who can build growth in the students, not only academically but also emotionally…

A tutor should first be the student's friend. We should build camaraderie towards our students so that they will be willing to listen to us, which will give the teachers easier time throughout the sessions. Tutors should also give their best to teach their students and give quality education. They should ensure the students learn the lessons…

make sure the tutors are patient and goes on a pace that is comfortable for the student. the most important thing to consider as a tutor is that each student is different and has their own way of learning, and its our job to understand and match their skillset, not the other way around. I am patient and my main focus is on building fundamentals,…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them understand their work, to the point where, with the tutor, the student would is better off, than without the tutor. I strive to make the student as confident as possible in the subject even if it is not their favourite. My strengths as a tutor would include being able to engage…

The most important thing a tutor can do would be to maintain a strict regimen on what is expected in a student. Students that are set in the easy and slow pace that their classroom teachers assert themselves will fall behind easily. It is vital that a tutor recognise and go the extra mile to attain new resources and schedules for their student to…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do is work themself out of a job. I believe as a tutor the ultimate goal is to help the student become an independent learner. Also, confidence is the basic quality of a tutor. It also means that you have the courage to admit that you don't know the answer. Knowing that you are not absolutely correct, so that students may feel better. Lastly, be willing to share your own…

Be patient and go through the questions very clearly and slowly until they understand the concept in depth. I also think teaching the students content ahead of the class will ensure they can have a better understanding when they get taught it in school and already know the foundation I'm patient with students and will go through questions slowly…

As a tutor I believe that there no high intelligence or less intelligence students. Each student has their own learning pattern and style. Therefore what a tutor can do is to identify that specific learning pattern and help the student to climb the ladder of success. Communication and social skills. I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is help students believe in themselves. Sometimes they know more than they think—they just need someone to encourage them and show them they’re capable. And remind students that learning is a process. A tutor should focus on progress, not perfection, and celebrate the small wins along the…

As mentioned, creating an alternate method for rote learning is to let the concept sink in through simple derivations and i have used it in my past so i'd love to pass it on to my students. Local Reviews

We have only just started using Ezy Maths Tutoring but so far, I cannot fault them. Our tutor is fantastic, we are already seeing positive results with our daughter after just 2 sessions. The customer service so far has been great also.

Inside WantirnaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Zoey reviewed solving quadratic equations using the discriminant and completing the square, and practiced finding turning points as well as applying Pythagoras' theorem and basic trigonometry.

For Year 10, Michael focused on consolidating his understanding of indices and surds alongside additional practice with quadratics and trigonometry problems.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Lily worked through bearings and unit circle concepts in trigonometry, using diagrams to help visualise angle relationships.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 maths, one student hesitated to attempt unfamiliar problems unless the exact solving method was already known, which led to slow progress and "waiting for external help."

In Year 11, a lack of attention to detail in financial maths homework—"one mixed-up tax step affected all answers"—meant time was spent correcting errors rather than building confidence.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student often avoided writing rough working in new topics; her written solutions became jumbled and hard to follow.

Across both primary and senior levels, relying on old examples or replicating steps sometimes blocked true understanding when faced with novel tasks.

Recent Achievements

One Wantirna tutor noted a big shift in a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to ask for help; after struggling with algebra, she recently approached her teacher independently about a tricky maths problem and could explain where she was stuck.

A high schooler who had always needed prompting to check her work is now catching and correcting her own mistakes during homework review, showing much more self-reliance.

In Year 4, Maya started explaining out loud how perimeter measures the outside of shapes versus area inside—a real change from before when she mixed up the two and wouldn't talk through her thinking.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Knox Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Yea High School-Chinese Community Centre.
