The most important thing a tutor can do for the student is to empathize with the student on how he finds difficult to catch the concepts and ideas. Also, this is to let them express what they find difficult to understand. Aside from mastery of concepts of Math, Physics and Engineering Science subjects, I have developed different techniques of…

From my experience, the most impactful lesson a tutor can teach a student is how to research and study on his own in the long run. As Greg Reid once said, "A dream written down with a date becomes a goal. A goal broken down into steps becomes a plan. A plan backed by action makes dreams come true." Therefore, I firmly believe that although…

I believe the most important thing is to let students find their own pace and help them find the technique that work better for them. I have lots of patience and I enjoy explaining things. I would explain things until I am sure that the other party has fully understood the subject and feels confident about…

Tutors must be flexible in their assistance to students through recognising individual learning preferences. Hence, they must cater to one's level of academic proficiency, their learning weaknesses and holes in education to provide a tangible improvement in grades. I have recent experience undertaking high school Extension 1 and 2 Mathematics,…

the most important things that a tutor can do is enhancing creativities, and building logic to solve the problem. because sometimes, a tutor can improve students' grade but by teaching tricks to solve math problem, not by enhancing creativities. trying to improve solving problem logic and increase creativities can take longer time but once…

I believe tutors pass on a sense of confidence to their students as they develop their skills. It is that virtue that students bring back to their classroom ready to apply what they have learned during their tutor's session. Patience is a key value that I possess and that will make me succeed in this role. Acknowledging that different student…

Being extremely open-minded so that the student is under no influences or pressure. I believe that interest is the best teacher, therefore I suppose it is very important for a tutor to bring back students' interests and passions in their studies. If not, the student will only keep seeking help when they are facing the problem and they don't have the intrinsic motivation on studies. However if they are interested and passionate…

I think it is important for tutors to show patience and understanding towards students. It can be frustrating when one struggles to understand a new concept and I want to ensure that the student finds enjoyment in their work rather than a sense of dread toward it. Explain concepts well and set a good foundation for their learning. Additionally, the most important thing a tutor should do is encourage and teach them how to learn by themselves. Tutoring is about building a relationship with the student based on trust and respect, making the student feel comfortable enough to ask questions, express their concerns and doubts, which was a key aspect for me when I was learning. The most important thing is to make sure that the student doesn't feel overwhelmed with their workload, and instead has fun (or at least doesn't detest the time spent) while studying. In this regard, the tutor has to make the content interesting and tailor it to each individual if it's one-on-one. I'm very patient in explaining concepts. I also…

Inside WareembaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Rose practiced multiplication using the column method for two- and three-digit numbers, then started long division, reinforcing skills with games and timed worksheets.

A Year 9 student revised trigonometry and probability questions to prepare for an upcoming exam, focusing on solving right-angled triangle problems and basic chance calculations.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student worked through questions on finding the midpoint, distance, and gradient of a line given two points, applying these to graph linear relationships.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student tended to check every maths answer with me before moving on, showing hesitation despite correct work—this meant quiz time was spent seeking reassurance instead of practicing independently.

In Year 10, a missed assignment detail wasn't shared during sessions; as the tutor noted, "he would have benefitted from input," but did it alone and missed out on targeted feedback.

A senior student struggled with exam time management, having to rush sections after underestimating how long tasks like financial maths would take. The stress lingered as she recounted feeling pressed for time after the session ended.

Recent Achievements

One Wareemba tutoring session saw a Year 11 student move from relying on memorised rules to confidently breaking down differentiation problems step by step, even cross-checking with earlier concepts like Pythagoras when needed.

In Year 9 English, a student who used to struggle with essay structure is now independently using the P.E.E. format and can clearly explain her reasoning for each point.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who often rushed through addition tasks surprised her tutor this week by pausing to double-check answers—spotting and fixing her own errors before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Five Dock Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Abbotsford Public School.
