A tutor must provide academic guidance and support to the students by assisting them with any struggles they may be having in a subject to boost their academic performance. Building a relationship and cultivating a connection with students is also very important because the more the student connects with the tutor, the more comfortable they will…

At the end of the day, I value results as a tutor. Helping students meet their goals is key. Equally important is injecting fun into the learning process, making it more engaging and exciting for students, so they eagerly anticipate each session. As a tutor I have good problem solving skills to address any situation that arises. Furthermore, I can…

As a tutor, I believe the most important things a teacher could do for their students is making them feel encouraged and secured. Promoting education in today's society is something that should be dominated and put first. In my eyes, a child's education is the first step towards a child's success. Encouraging students and providing them with a…

Ensuring our duty of care over our students and making sure that they gained something from each lesson. Progress will take time and just ensuring that the student is happy whilst enjoying the process is key. I am able to break down quite complex mathematical concepts into bite sized portions that can be understood more easily by the student. I…

The most important thing a tutor should do for a student is make them feel good about themselves. If the student develops a mentality where they feel as if they will never be able to learn something, they wont. It will be my job as a tutor to encourage them to believe in their own capabilities and further expand on this with different teaching…

I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is ensure that the information and skills being taught are useful to the student. To be able to identify the areas of which a student is having a hard time and adapt their way of teaching. Understanding that the students learning is the number one priority when teaching and that…

Prepare before a lesson -themselves and any resoruces they may want to use. Listen to where the student is at with their learning and understanding, then work from there - work *with* the student. Use the student's strengths to teach them better, eg. giving more examples, or providing x amount of time to complete a certain activity, etc. I…

I believe the role of a tutor extends beyond academic assistance. I empathise with the pressures and challenges students face, and through my own experiences, I have identified effective strategies that can significantly alleviate their stress. Thus, I aim to guide students on how to manage and cope with stressors associated with exams and studies…

Help him get to ease with the course, make it not feel like a burden but something the pupil has control over, allow him to see his strengths and focus on the knowledge he is gaining from it, and how he can benefit from it. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to become their friend. Children are sometimes uncomfortable with teachers and are unable to fully explain where they struggle. However, if we are able to get them to open up we would be able to better assist them in improving their grades. A student who is comfortable in the…

Be empathetic... Often students are going through a lot more than just school and/or sport, and sometimes tutors do not realise this when they're loading them with a lot of information. By being empathetic and patient that tutor is able to consider that needs of the student and alter sessions accordingly to ensure the greatest bang for the buck. I…

It is extremely important that when the student is faced with a difficult question, they are able to see many potential methods to attempt it. As such I consider the most important thing that a tutor can do it expand the understanding of their student so much so that they can see these multiple methods by themselves and adapt their thinking to the…

The most important thing is to understand the needs and problems of a student and to be able to target these issues. I will always be non-judgemental and be patient and continue to support the student no matter what…

Inside Werrington CountyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Alysha focused on mastering multiplication and division, especially as applied to finding gradients in "rise over run" questions, and began introductory pre-algebra work.

In Year 9, Ella strengthened her understanding of linear relationships by learning how to find the gradient and y-intercept from tables and graphs, and also practiced solving trigonometry problems using Sine, Cosine, and Tangent formulas with labelled triangle diagrams.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student William worked through quadratic equations—starting with a diagnostic pre-test—then tackled expanding expressions and moved on to factorising techniques such as difference of two squares and grouping.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, one student consistently left homework incomplete—"he has not been doing homework at all"—which meant missed chances to consolidate strategies from tutoring.

For a Year 10 lesson, messy or missing working in algebra ("she needs to make sure that she is showing full and organised working out") made it harder to spot errors early.

Another senior student often relied on rote learning formulas for surface area and volume but struggled when test questions required adaptation; as noted, "she found it difficult to remember earlier mathematical content," leading to slower recall and extra time spent searching through notes during assessments.

Recent Achievements

In one high school session, William moved from hesitating to ask for help to actively seeking clarification when a concept wasn't clear, which let him complete probability questions more independently than before.

Sophie, another secondary student, has started catching her own mistakes during homework review—she now spots and corrects errors herself rather than waiting for guidance.

For a younger student, Alysha showed new initiative by asking questions whenever she was unsure and managed to finish her division homework accurately on her own after practicing examples together.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Our daughter Marleen has finished her tutoring as she finished her HSC with great results: well above her predicted ATAR. A big thank you to Gordon who did a fabulous job tutoring chemistry!

Alexandra has benefited greatly from her tutoring over the last semester. It has helped to boost her confidence and she has improved significantly.

Thank you for the great assistance provided to my two children, Tristan and Grace. They both feel more confident in the maths classroom as a result of the tutoring received through EzyMaths Tutoring.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as St Marys Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Werrington County Public School.
