The tutor should be reliable, and help them unleash their potential. Students should learn that they are able to do things on their own, hence a tutor should also be encouraging. I am able to relate to the students. I can mold my way of teaching into their liking, and I am prepared. I will think of all strategies to teach them…

Help students build a structured approach to problem-solving. Solutions can be found online, but it is important to cultivate the right starting point in students' minds, since it is an important skill to have at every level of study. Utmost patience is something I have honed, since I skipped a class when I was in school, and it took a lot of…

The most important thing for a tutor to do for a student is providing as much information as they can. Answer their questions, solve their problems, and make sure that they really understand the material. I am a very good listener. When a student is facing difficulty, I believe the problem is communication. Talk to them and try to find out what is…

Patience and not comparing them with the others. I believe that each student has their own pace of learning. Lack of patience and comparing them with others will certainly hamper their learning process and will give them less confidence on their studies. Understanding the most effective way of learning for each student is also crucial. When I was…

It is important to be patient and approachable so that students feel comfortable coming to you with their queries. Availability and dependability is also important. If a student has last minute issues the night before their exam it is important that they can rely on their tutor to get back to them by the end of the day with an answer. I am patient…

I think understanding that every kid is different and special in their own way, and they have their own needs and methods of approaching problems is very important. Every tutor should try to personalise the tutor session based on the needs, learning pattern and pace, interests and goals of the children so that they can make the most out of it. I…

I think it is vital to understand the students individual needs insteald of just dropping a premade template on top of them based on their course content. I think the key thing a tutor can do for a student is ensure that their individual learning habits are in order, creating an essential degree of independence. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is adapt to suit their needs. Whilst many tutors can simply pass on content, a strong tutor is capable of teaching content in a way that suits the learning needs of a student. This may include using different communication methods, teaching at different paces and understanding the students…

To make students enjoy the classes, and want them to learn more and get interested in the subject. Inside WollstonecraftTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Charlie worked through logic and probability homework problems, focusing on strategies for tackling worded questions.

In Year 9, Olivia practiced simplifying surds and applying surface area formulas, using step-by-step worked examples.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Emily explored fractions and ratios in word problems, paying particular attention to finding lowest common denominators when solving multi-step questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths, one student left several exam corrections incomplete and relied heavily on calculators during logarithms revision—this made it hard to spot patterns in errors. "He skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors," a tutor observed after working through complex equations.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student repeatedly forgot to bring their notes to trigonometry lessons and hesitated to attempt harder questions without immediate help.

In Year 4 English, another avoided finishing creative writing drafts when unsure about structure, leading to missed feedback opportunities and growing reluctance to start longer tasks the following week.

Recent Achievements

One Wollstonecraft tutor observed a Year 11 student who had struggled with simultaneous equations begin to solve quadratic and financial maths problems with much more independence, applying operations methodically without prompting.

In a recent Year 8 session, a student who used to rush through algebra questions started taking time to break down word problems aloud and double-check each step, leading to noticeably fewer errors.

Meanwhile, in Year 4 English, one learner who previously hesitated to read out loud was able to tackle longer passages clearly and even volunteered for extra turns during the lesson.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are all very happy with Rebecca. Myself, my husband and especially Grace, which is wonderful. Rebecca and Grace's school teacher have spoken via email and are working together. I think it is too early to see any real progress, as you said we would expect to see a difference in the next couple of months. But for now we are glad Grace is getting the help she needs while enjoying the company of Rebecca.

Mitch has been so wonderful with Nick and is doing an amazing job tutoring Nick, especially getting Nick focused on completing his maths homework. He has worked with Nick so well and has established a great working relationship with him. His patient demeanor is certainly a strong attribute and has made tutoring for Nick so much easier.  Nick has commented several times that 'he has learnt more with Mitch today than he has all week with his teacher'.

I am delighted with Domenic's tutoring. I was concerned about how the tutoring would go because Jake struggles with a high level of anxiety but Domenic has put him at his ease.  He has engaged very well with my son, and is enthusiastic, encouraging, knowledgable and organised. He explains concepts in a way that Jake can grasp them: Jake has had at least one 'ah-ha' moment in every session. Domenic is also always punctual and polite. He has made a big difference already to Jett's confidence and performance at Maths. I look forward to having him continue to tutor Jake through his HSC.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greenwich Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like International Chinese School.
