I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is guide a student. Just watering is not enough but should help the students to grow his roots so that the student grasps the concepts not just answer some previously seen examples. I like to teach students in a way that is interactive and not directive.I feel that the more students learn about the…

The most important thing a tutor needs to do is help the students understand. This comes in many aspects as simply explaining to them new concepts is not enough. A good tutor should listen to their student's problems and try to solve them in the best way possible and if needed, get back to them later. Also, regular feedback should be given to the…

I feel the most important thing that a tutor can do is to listen to the students as they explain what they don't understand and to help fully explain the solution of the problem to the student and to verify that the students understands the new concepts. I am patient with the students and I can work through many examples with the student until he…

The most important thing is to learn what the student needs. It is easy to go off track and teach all the information you know, but I believe the students' request come first. Even though the students might not know what they need, the tutor should work with them and identify which areas the student need improvements on. Hence, the tutor could…

The most important things a tutor can do is knowing the right way to support and motivate the student to grow academically. A tutor should also have a strong understanding of the subject so they can break lessons or problems into simpler terms, while still making the class fun and interactive. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is allowing a student time to try and solve aspects of the problem themselves following proper guidance, instead of hand-holding them the entire way. This helps build critical thinking skills and allows the student to recognise the roots of the question. A tutor should also be understanding of any…

Although it is important to improve students' results, I believe the most important responsibilities of a tutor are to help their students to discover their talents, enable them to reach their full potential, and empower them to be independent thinkers and passionate life-long learners. I scored 96% (First Class Honours) on my research thesis in a…

I think the important thing for a tutor is to be clear in their concepts so that they can explain and teach their student in a clear and understanding way. As a tutor you need to make sure you test the student so that you know where they stand and then start from there. Evaluating the progress is just as essential. I consider myself a well…

I want my students to be able not only to learn the given subjects/materials but also to learn how to learn. It might sound insignificant, but students will be lifelong learners, so they have to find out their learning styles, how to learn, how to manage their learning, etc. That's why it is important for me to also help them learn about…

As for me, the most crucial thing should be improving their academic performances while arousing their interest in studying. To be specific, these are what I consider responsible tutorial behaviors. 1. Do sufficient pre-class preparation and make notes for every key point that you are going to talk about in detail. 2. Be patient in class. Think…

Tutors should try their best to inculcate a certain level of intrinsic motivation in their students, rather than having students work just because the teacher or tutor says so. This increases the chances of consistent work and improvement while also increasing the level of enjoyment while working. It is also important to help them gain an…

Listen to what the student has to say, and base their teaching strategy around their individual needs. If the tutor doesn’t listen to a student or understand their struggles with certain areas, how could the tutor expect good results from their student? I believe I am very clear and concise with what I teach, and that because of my openly…

I believe it depends highly on the students understanding and their level of education. However in saying this, the ability to create interest and enjoyment in a subject is the most important. Inside AberfeldieTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Sarah worked on factorising and expanding algebraic expressions, including an introduction to the "Magic X method" for quadratics.

For Year 8, Jack focused on trigonometric ratios—using diagrams to connect sine, cosine, and tangent with right-angled triangles—and revised graphing lines by finding gradients and axis intercepts.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Emily practised scientific notation alongside significant figures and applied exponent laws in problem-solving contexts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly left algebraic fractions homework incomplete, meaning skills didn't progress between sessions.

In Year 10, one learner avoided writing out steps when rearranging equations, as the tutor noted: "She only used her calculator and couldn't replicate the method afterwards."

A Year 7 struggled with messy working—numbers and steps ran together on the page, which made checking for mistakes much harder.

Meanwhile, a senior student lost motivation after struggling with vocabulary in essay writing; frustration grew each time sentences were marked incorrect, leading to slower improvement in both confidence and output.

Recent Achievements

One Aberfeldie tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student's approach: after struggling with mistakes on matrix assignments, he recently completed his work without errors and started presenting his solutions clearly for exams.

In a Year 8 English session, Sam—who used to be hesitant sharing ideas—spoke up more than usual and received positive feedback from his teacher on his essay.

Meanwhile, Julia in Year 5 has begun taking her own notes during lessons rather than waiting for prompts, showing new independence she didn't have at the start of term.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Maribyrnong Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Aberfeldie Primary School.
