Tutors should be able to make a student not feel bad for having trouble during lessons. They should allow them to feel open to asking questions and asking for help when they do not understand an aspect of something being taught. I think I can connect and befriend students well as a tutor. I try my best to make students as comfortable as they can…

To inspire students. I remember one of my teachers told me that a teacher can not only teach students about their subjects but also about how to be a person. I have a strong academic background. I have an ATAR of 99.6. I also taught Y12 Mathematical Methods as a private tutor before. I am confidant that I can explain difficult concepts and answer…

In my opinion, one of the most important things a great tutor can do for a student is to increase their passion for the subject. When a student genuinely enjoys learning about a topic, they will be more motivated. When students love what they're learning, it unlocks their potential. That energy and excitement will hopefully lead to a deeper…

On a surface level outlook a tutor is just meant to teach their students and be on their way. But in my perspective, there is more to it than just teaching. A tutor is about being a capable mentor that identifies the student's weaknesses in class and mentally so there is always something the student can work upon both academically and mentally.…

The most important virtue that I consider for being a tutor for a student is having the patience to understand what they are expecting out of me, in order for me to give them back the necessary skills and training they require to excel in their domain. I believe a tutor should always be able to accommodate to the students' circumstances when helping them learn something new. Many tutors are often high-scoring students, while many students will be those struggling. This leads to some tutors not being considerate enough of the students' lack of prior knowledge and understanding. It is the tutor's…

Inside BellfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ethan worked on converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and representing fractions on a number line, using diagrams for visual understanding.

Year 8 student Olivia focused on indices—practising both positive and negative indices—and revisited measurement concepts including perimeter of circles.

For Year 10, Jacob tackled linear equations and trigonometry basics such as identifying sine, cosine, and tangent ratios in right-angled triangles.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly guessed answers in maths rather than working them out on paper, with one tutor noting, "He got up several times to play basketball during class."

In Year 10, forgetting to bring textbooks and materials made it difficult to review past challenges—"She needed to bring her maths books so I could see what she had struggled with this week."

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student ran out of time on an exam, missing simple errors due to poor planning. These habits led to lost marks and missed opportunities for targeted feedback in each session.

Recent Achievements

A Bellfield tutor noticed Ollie, a Year 10 student, recently made fewer mistakes on area and perimeter problems by slowing down and using the standard formula they created together—he used to rush through and miss key steps.

In another session, Kiera (Year 11) moved from relying on hints to working through challenging English essay planning almost entirely independently, making her own quote lists for the first time.

Meanwhile, Felix in primary school finally started applying punctuation correctly in his writing without reminders after weeks of forgetting full stops.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

All is going very well with Eden's tutoring.  We are very happy and our only regret is that we didn't do this earlier. Eden has said she has understood maths more with Calvin than in all her years at school. We look forward to seeing Eden's confidence in maths grow steadily and am pleased she is comfortable with Calvin's patience to keep questioning him in areas she struggles with.

Yes everything has started off great. Lachie really likes Suzan which has made it much easier and seems to be looking forward to Sunday tutoring. Thanks you very much on the email, much appreciated.

We started yesterday and Dylan and Erin both seemed happy and got along quite nicely.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ivanhoe Library & Cultural Hub—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Pius X School.
