What I consider to be the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to build a relationship with them. Listening to a student, assessing what areas they struggle with most, and celebrating the accomplishments they have made in their studies (whether big or small), is key in strengthening the student's trust in the tutor. In turn, this…

In my opinion the most important thing a teacher can do for a Student is to make a Educational related understanding with the student. As in my case I make sure the student clear his idea and he/she is not shy to ask more questions. I take tutoring as my Passion so I do not move to the next idea/topic if my student did not understand the previous…

A tutor needs to inspire the students in such a way that they know what their efforts will make them accomplish. A very few teachers are able to provide the contextual applications of what they teach the students. I believe it is paramount that a student know about WHY he is being taught something. Sparking interest in studies is not easy at times…

The most important thing for a tutor is to make sure the student understand the basic theory, before going to the implementation/application. I have experiences in teaching courses related to science. I also a PhD student in Computer Science major, which can allow me to creatively use technology to teach the student. This can make the students…

Mostly is the responsibility and the enthusiasm. As a tutor, they must do their responsibility to let students not only know the syllabus, but also have their critical and extend thinking about further questions. Tutors should prepare any references and the plans before the lesson, and be patient and polite to any students during the class. Give…

The best thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them grow an understanding of analysis in their mind on how to approach and answer the relevant question. Students have to learn the material themselves, however a guidance is required to what is relevant material to read and where is the focus on the study. I feel that I can understand when a…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach them how to become independent. I would say that tutoring is only a temporary solution to their academic problems. If they are going to enter a university, get a real job or did not have enough money to pay for tutoring services, I would want them to learn on their own. A time would…

I think that one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to give them confidence in their own abilities, as this empowers them to develop their own skills on their own and, Some of my strengths as a tutor is my patience, I am quite willing to explain a concept to a student as many times as necessary and can adapt to a specific…

The most important thing a tutor can do is recognise their students ability level and mould their teaching to that level. This insures that the kids do not feel out of depth, but also they are learning new things every session. A tutor is solely responsible for shaping a students life. I consider the tutor to be committed in understanding what type of student he/she handles, since all of them aren't the same. Analyzing the talents of students and guiding them in a friendly way, will definitely motivate them to perform better. The teacher must be strong with the subject,…

As a tutor, our goal is not only for our students to pass the subject, we also want our students to reach their full potential. We can do so by giving our students our support, and giving them time to digest what they have learnt from the lesson. We can let them know that it is normal to struggle at first especially if it is a new topic but with…

I think the most important things a tutor can do would be to be patient, and to cater for each specific student. If a tutor is unable to adapt to each student, the purpose of one-on-one tutoring is nullified. I think I am good at adapting my teaching approach depending on the specific student, and explaining things in multiple different ways…

Making students regain the confidence they loose on themselves when they see they're not getting the results they expected. I believe the most vital thing a tutor can do for a student is to give an explanation. We tutors exist to answer and explain questions that a lesson can't provide. Generally, it is best that a student is comfortable asking questions without being judged by classmates and that is the foundation of learning. Not to mention, each tutor might have a…

Inside Castle CoveTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student James focused on fraction revision and practised finding arc lengths in circles, using diagrams to visualise questions.

In Year 9, Aja worked through non-right angle trigonometry and quadratic equations by solving bearing questions from past exams.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Trai tackled factorising quadratics using the PSF method and reviewed topics from a recent assessment to target areas needing improvement.

Recent Challenges

He kept trying to apply extra steps that weren't needed, especially under time pressure. This slowed progress in timed assessments, making it harder to finish confidently.

In Year 7 algebra, another student repeatedly forgot negative signs when simplifying expressions—missing these details meant having to rework problems from scratch during revision.

For a Year 4 learner working on decimals and money questions, forgetting to bring homework sheets left less time for targeted practice in lessons. The result was unfinished work and some confusion about rounding rules during class checks.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Castle Cove noticed a Year 8 student who used to freeze on percentage and fraction conversions now confidently works through them without hesitation, especially after mastering the last few tricky steps by herself.

In high school, one Year 10 student who often guessed quietly when stuck with factorising is now openly pinpointing her errors and self-correcting during lessons—a big shift from before.

Meanwhile, a senior student struggling with logarithms recently identified which log laws to apply and solved questions independently after missing key classes last term, finishing the set without needing further hints.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We have been working with Emily since last year and so we are very happy with her.

Nicholas, our tutor, has been absolutely amazing and has a wonderful influence on on Mike. And you service is exceptional!

I think Velvet and Kirsten are starting to work well together. The book is really helpful to learn about the theories and what works in a practical sense.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Castle Cove Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Castle Cove Public School.
