I think the most important a biology tutor can do for a student is to get to know and read them perfectly. This allows a tutor to know exactly what a student needs to excel, help them set realistic goals and knowing not only when to help but also when not to help, rather letting the student try and solve a complex question themselves without…

I think the most important thing a biology tutor can do is address a students weakens and advise them on how they can improve upon that weakness. For me when I was a student the best thing the teacher could do was give my examples and tons of practice that’s the way I learnt and it worked for me. Working according to the student whatever works…

A tutor should be able to help clear each and every notion that the student has about a certain topic. They should not get tired of explaining concepts on repeat. A good tutor should always be consistent and take note of what their student does. They should regularly follow up on lesson plans and make sure that the student is not burdened by any…

1. A tutor must be interactive and must be collaborative. 2. Tutor should know the subject matter thoroughly and in detail and should be ready to clear any sort of confusions. 3. The learning process should not be forced rather eased with dynamic teaching strategies. 4. It is vital to keep track of every students to identify significant…

The most important thing a biology tutor can do is to ensure that the child fully understands the lesson, and finds purpose in it. The student should not only study it because it is a requirement, but because they find it interesting, This I believe is a very crucial task for tutors. If a child is passionate about a subject, they will…

The most important thing a biology tutor can do for a student is to guide them into identifying their strengths and weaknesses and helping them to improve both of these factors I believe my biggest strength is my ability to be patient with others. To be able to explain concepts that seem complex to students, with clarity. Not only that, but to build a student's confidence in their own ability. Many students are not receiving the proper support they need for a particular subject at school; it may be too hard, it may not come off as interesting or it may not come off as useful to their…

The most important thing a biology tutor can give to a student, I would say is give hope and ease the path they are taking. Instead of teaching in a standard linear fashion, I prefer to let the pupil choose what they would like to practice and I will explain the concept while showing how the idea can be applied and adjusted. I also believe worded problems are a strong point that should be focused on as they test the knowledge of the student and how the student can…

Recognise HOW a student actually learns. One of the hardest things a student has to learn is what method of studying actually suits them and once you find that the rest seems to fall in place. Devoting time and resources to your students to improve in their core weaknesses and not being afraid to reteach the most basic skills should also be common…

Being patient in allowing students to fully grasp a topic or idea before proceeding. Provide support, of course through teaching content, but most importantly by the way we deliver the information and provide feedback. Inside Catherine FieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Lily worked on identifying factor pairs and practiced multiplication drills to build number fluency.

In Year 9, Ibrahim focused on solving linear equations and practiced more advanced Pythagoras' theorem problems, including rearranging equations and multiplying negative numbers.

Meanwhile, Year 12 Kris dedicated time to HSC English essay writing, analyzing film studies and refining written responses using past exam questions as practice.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10, one student's statistics test showed that incomplete revision—mainly revisiting easier problems and neglecting trickier, data-based questions—left gaps in exam performance. As a tutor observed, "he needed more practice with interpreting graphs under timed conditions."

For a Year 11 English task, feedback wasn't fully integrated into subsequent essay drafts; structuring and use of formal language remained inconsistent even after teacher notes were shared.

Meanwhile, in Year 8 maths, an over-reliance on calculator use for basic multiplication slowed progress when tackling non-calculator sections. In the moment, this led to uncertainty and last-minute corrections during tests.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Catherine Field noticed a Year 11 student who'd previously rushed through maths problems is now breaking down financial maths questions step by step, double-checking answers with a calculator instead of guessing.

In Year 9 English, one student who used to struggle with essay planning now independently identifies key film themes and takes detailed notes for exam prep—showing new initiative during sessions.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student has moved from hesitating over two-digit subtraction to completing these sums smoothly and even explaining the "friends of 20" strategy out loud before finishing their homework early.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Oliver is a lovely young man, he and Cameron are working well together. He seems to be a bit more confident already.

James is great and Orion is already finding such a difference with school. He is really enjoying his time with tutoring and is understanding what he hadn't understood.

l am extremely happy with Tara. She is such a lovely person, so thank-you for sending her to us.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Narellan Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Gledswood Hills Public School.
