Whether this be through going over difficult concepts, assisting in methods of memorisation and retaining information, or providing effective study techniques, it is the role of a tutor to support their students in areas needed.…

A tutor should meet the student on their level, and aim together for a higher but attainable goal, using realistic and actionable steps to reach it. I believe I'm openminded, relatable and strong when it comes to 1 on 1 teaching, tutoring, supporting and communicating. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to assure them that being able to understand and improve in math is not impossible for them. Encouraging the students at every step of the way is extremely important to help build their confidence and this is something that many students do not get at school. A tutor should also help…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to make learning fun so they don't feel pressured into doing work but if it's fun they are going to enjoy it more. Even little things such as brain breaks are going to benefit the child so they can give their brain a break before diving back into it. I want to make sure that all…

I consider an improvement in confidence incredibly significant to a child's attitude to learning. If a student is confident in their abilities to learn a subject, then they will be more likely to put effort into correcting their mistakes. This confidence and ability to recognise improvement will directly and positively affect the student's self…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to help them see the subject in the light that they do and nurture their interest in it. Students spend a major part of a day in school. Many children are unable to get the most of it due to time-constraints and lack of individual attention in a class. However, there are a few students who maintain attention and focus in a classroom environment. Reason is they are more prepared than the rest. If a child follows what is happening in…

A tutor should push the student as much as they possibly can. A tutor can build the confidence of a student, reassuring the student on their strengths, and encouraging them to build and…

Leanne, Clarkson

Inside ClarksonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Alex worked on adding and subtracting large numbers and decimals, as well as calculating **perimeter in measurement problems**.

For Year 9, Jasmine tackled **surface area calculations for prisms and cylinders**, applying formulas to different shapes.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Lucas reviewed trigonometry with a focus on **solving angles of elevation and depression using real-world examples**.

Recent Challenges

A Year 4 student often left homework incomplete, particularly the second page of their maths booklet, leading to confusion with worded fraction problems.

In Year 9, one student relied heavily on having an iPad nearby during sessions—"it ends up being a bit distracting most of the time and really shouldn't be in the room if not necessary"—and forgot to bring home their assessment sheet, making it difficult to understand teacher expectations.

For a Year 11 student preparing for OLNA-style questions, reluctance to start questions meant revision time was lost at the outset instead of being spent on practice and feedback.

Recent Achievements

One Clarkson tutor noticed a big change in Ella, a Year 10 student who used to keep her ideas to herself—this week, she shared her opinions unprompted on a film's themes, something she'd avoided during previous assignments.

In Year 8 maths, Kyle has become much quicker and more accurate at solving measurement problems; when tutoring first started, he often hesitated and double-checked every answer.

For a younger student in Year 4, making division questions about money finally clicked—she now confidently works through problems independently, linking them back to real-world dollars and cents and finishing all the set questions without help.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

thanks for the information ,sienna will have her last session with wade this week and we will be starting back the last week of january .Wade has been a great help to sienna and we look forward to seeing him next year to help us through year 8 . I am highly impressed with wade and ezy math tutoring .all the best for the holidays.

Our tutor, Amy, came to our place yesterday for my son's first session.  Thought I'd give you a bit of feedback.........she was lovely, had been keeping in touch beforehand, and Alex seemed to show signs of much improved motivation !! She clearly is experienced in tutoring students and at this very early stage I think we're off to a great start.

I have some results to report. Wari has sat three tests in the last week or so, the results are: Maths - 95.5%; Chemistry - 100%; Economics - 77% (no coaching in this subject). We are very happy with these results, especially the chemistry one as she has had the most trouble with that subject. Last week, before the Friday chemistry test they did two hours on chemistry, she found the lessons very hard, but the following test very straight forward. In the maths test, she actually did all the calculations correctly but lost marks for rounding an answer incorrectly and rounding a couple of other answers when she shouldn't have! We are very happy with Alexander's teaching, although we are not sitting in the room, he sounds very clear and concise. Another very important thing to consider  is that she is very happy with her results and is gaining more self confidence, and, I think, is generally more relaxed and happy with life.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Clarkson Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Clarkson Primary School.
