I think teaching students how to be independent is something tutors must do. Prioritizing things like active learning wherein students get to question things themselves, rather than being spoon-fed answers is important. Making them learn that they can find the answers themselves if they put in the effort is important. And obviously creating all…

The tutor has so many key responsibilities and actions to do. As he/she needs to aware that individuals are understanding, there should be effective communication, setting realistic goals, creating a supportive environment and also providing them a constructive feedback. I am good in teaching and received very good compliment from my colleagues…

In my opinion, the most important thing, that a tutor can do for the student is to understand the problems which the student is facing, and then come up with a plan on how to overcome these problems. Apart from this, understanding the knowledge graph of the student, and teaching him/her according to the pattern, which they understand the most, is…

A lot of students have the preconception that math is impossible and unenjoyable. If you can unlock a students joy for mathematical thinking and problem solving, than half the job is done. Mainly the ability to convey complicated mathematical concepts in a clear concise and (maybe most importantly) enjoyable…

For me it is important for tutor to be able to encourage and make the student enjoy learning. Because in order for students to learn faster, they would need to be willing to digest the new knowledge and information given by the tutor. Furthermore, it is important for tutor to look at a problem from many different perspective, because one point of…

I believe that creating a safe space where the child is comfortable enough to ask as many questions as they need is one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student. He/she should not hesitate in repeating an explanation as many times as necessary if the student doesn't understand any topic. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient. Never give up on students. A tutor must be able to secure a positive impression of the subject in the student's mind, regardless of how arduous the subject content might be. A tutor is a third parent and must have immense patience to ensure that the child grasps each and every detail, even if they ask us to repeat what we taught. Besides, as tutors, we must always advocate…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be proud of all the improvements the student has done. It's not about congratulating them for being a high achieving student. Inside CremorneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 Jonas reviewed algebra concepts and perimeter for both regular and irregular shapes, then worked through an angles worksheet with extension into angle types.

Year 8 Jamie focused on comparing and simplifying fractions, followed by work on percentages, decimals, and how they relate to fractions.

For Year 10 Jonas, lessons included statistics—such as five-number summary analysis—and extending algebra skills using targeted worksheets.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student, when working through trigonometry and statistics tasks, sometimes left diagrams or graphs missing key labels—one note read, "Remember to write the title for x & y axis & Dun forget to write '0' in the left bottom corner."

In a Year 8 algebra lesson, calculation errors crept in because handwritten numbers (especially 0 and 6) were hard to distinguish; confusion led to time wasted double-checking their own work.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student often hesitated on multi-step worded problems, showing less confidence and skipping answer checks after finishing. This resulted in avoidable errors persisting across sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Cremorne tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who used to struggle with statistics; after three weeks reviewing quartiles and box plots, he now finds Q1, median, and Q3 quickly and accurately without prompts.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student who was hesitant to ask for help has started actively decoding complex algebra word problems on her own and confidently checks her process aloud as she works.

In primary, one Year 6 student recently figured out the formula for the area of a parallelogram himself after an initial explanation—something he'd found confusing before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Richmond Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Melbourne Girls Grammar - Morris Hall Campus.
