The most importat thing I believe is to be available for a student when he/she needs you. It is also important to be accessible to them by answering all their doubts and be there for them till they understand a certain concept. I can be a student's friend and help them understand every concept by being their confidante. I can make them enjoy their…

While a tutor's contracted duty is to assist a student academically, I believe a tutor can do something far more in the process. A tutor can be the reason a student develops a greater sense of purpose at school. A tutor can be the reason a student falls in love with a subject and chooses to pursue it for the rest of their life. All in all, a tutor…

I think some of the most important things a tutor can do for a student are: Make their learning experience enjoyable by making learning creative. Making students feel confident about themselves and in the subject. Most importantly making the subject interesting and igniting curiosity in students. Tutors are the ones who shape the future of a child. Through their knowledge they help students to overcome their subjects by providing conceptual clarity. The most important things a tutor can do are diagnose where a student is stuck, rebuild the concept from first principles, and scaffold practice until they can solve it independently. That means creating a safe, encouraging space where questions are welcomed; breaking ideas into clear, step-by-step explanations; using targeted examples and checks…

I believe that the best thing that a tutor can do for a student is to develop their critical thinking ability, where the student learn to think for themselves, through which one could also effectively develop the art of asking questions and learning. I have developed an effective communication skill by working as a Manger at Domino's Figtree for…

Inside FitzroyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Gus focused on measurement skills including unit conversions, perimeter, and an introduction to surface area, as well as exploring the angle sum in triangles.

In Year 9, Maryam worked on solving simultaneous equations using substitution and elimination, then applied these methods to practical problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ali reviewed operations with fractions—adding, subtracting, multiplying with different denominators—and extended this knowledge to simplifying algebraic fractional expressions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 6 student in Fitzroy showed difficulty setting out work neatly and consistently dating pages, making it harder to track progress—especially when tackling worded measurement problems.

As one tutor observed, "she struggles to walk through questions speaking out loud," which made it tough to clarify her thinking on fraction conversions and unit changes.

In Year 10 English, a student forgot to submit an essay by the deadline, delaying feedback and causing extra stress before class.

A senior maths student arrived unprepared for sessions without essential materials like a pen or laptop; this slowed the start and limited practice time.

Recent Achievements

One Fitzroy tutor noticed a Year 11 student, Celeste, who used to hesitate with trigonometry word problems now confidently solves bearings and graphing tasks on her own—she even tackles complex questions without prompting.

In another session, Maryam (Year 10) moved from confusion about box plots to clearly explaining five-figure summaries and solving simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods.

Meanwhile, in Year 6 maths, Ella showed a shift from struggling with measurement topics to independently working through area and volume questions, finishing her test section on these without needing hints.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fitzroy Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart School.
