I'm very patient and I'm able to explain things in multiple ways to suit different peoples' needs. I also personally enjoy learning and helping others do…

Since, I am a student also, I think like a best teacher is the best motivator. So how it works ,never told a student directly that he or she is wrong, instead told them like ,you are near but can you think in another way or try to improvise your idea differently and present it. For me a "Best teacher is a best motivator" be it subjects or in…

The most important things a tutor can do are build a student’s confidence, teach them to think critically and help them become independent learners. Encouraging a mindset where students understand that mistakes are part of learning and believe in their ability to improve. It’s not just about covering content. I believe my biggest strengths as…

Beyond academic assistance, it involves nurturing confidence, offering constructive feedback, and acknowledging achievements. Tailoring teaching methods to accommodate individual learning styles is equally vital. Effective communication, coupled with active…

I believe it's being patient and treating every question equally. When I was in high school, I loved explaining math problems to my classmates. For math problems, I think there is no such thing as easy or difficult; the only difference is knowing how to solve it or not, so one should teach people until they understand it and can solve similar…

Being really punctual. When a student wants an appointment with a tutor, the tutor should come on time. Not only that, considering the student's perspective is really important. The tutor should be really compassionate to their students and is always there whenever the student needs help. Even though the tutor is busy and tired, a wise tutor…

A tutor that can go down to the student's level and cater to their needs in a unique way is very important. I believe each student has a different way of absorbing content better and being a tutor is all about going through the process of discovering what method best suites each student. I also believe a tutor should prioritize the student and…

The main benefit of 1 on 1 tuition over in-class learning is that the teaching is flexible, and more time can be spent on areas the students are struggling with, while not needing to dwell on subjects the students are already familiar with. I prefer to explain basic course concepts before the students learn them in class, so they can more easily…

The most important to keep in mind as a tutor is to give the student the patience and make them feel empowered as well as confident in the subject. It is crucial to explain the problem to them in a way that does not make them feel belittled or incompetent but instead, every tutor should embrace the student's ability and encourage them to develop…

Inside FitzroyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Gus focused on measurement skills including unit conversions, perimeter, and an introduction to surface area, as well as exploring the angle sum in triangles.

In Year 9, Maryam worked on solving simultaneous equations using substitution and elimination, then applied these methods to practical problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ali reviewed operations with fractions—adding, subtracting, multiplying with different denominators—and extended this knowledge to simplifying algebraic fractional expressions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 6 student in Fitzroy showed difficulty setting out work neatly and consistently dating pages, making it harder to track progress—especially when tackling worded measurement problems.

As one tutor observed, "she struggles to walk through questions speaking out loud," which made it tough to clarify her thinking on fraction conversions and unit changes.

In Year 10 English, a student forgot to submit an essay by the deadline, delaying feedback and causing extra stress before class.

A senior maths student arrived unprepared for sessions without essential materials like a pen or laptop; this slowed the start and limited practice time.

Recent Achievements

One Fitzroy tutor noticed a Year 11 student, Celeste, who used to hesitate with trigonometry word problems now confidently solves bearings and graphing tasks on her own—she even tackles complex questions without prompting.

In another session, Maryam (Year 10) moved from confusion about box plots to clearly explaining five-figure summaries and solving simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods.

Meanwhile, in Year 6 maths, Ella showed a shift from struggling with measurement topics to independently working through area and volume questions, finishing her test section on these without needing hints.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fitzroy Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart School.
