The most important thing a teacher can do for a student is clarifying any and all doubts that a student may have and patiently teaching the student until he/she understands the concept as well as the tutor. I believe my greatest strength as a tutor is having the patience to teach someone younger than myself and the willingness to teach them the…

I think the most important thing is the personalized experience a tutor can give a student. Tutors have a responsibility to create a positive learning environment for the student and understand their personalities. This way tutors can help the students as an individual on their personal weaknesses and help then grow. I think my strongest strength…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make them believe in their capability within a subject, as my English teacher did for me. Many people have an attitude that they cannot do something or are just not good at it seeing that confidence in themselves change is the best thing. And also to be able to foster critical thinking for…

I believe personalisation is the most important thing a tutor can do. Coming to class with a lesson plan, so that the student doesn't have to provide questions if they are excelling and have completed all resources provided by the teacher. Yet you must also be able to alter this plan throughout the lesson in order to focus on where the student is…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen and create a safe space for the student. When tutors don't listen it'll be a waste of time for both parties. This can be very hard because sometimes students may not be able to pinpoint what they don't understand or they might just feel a bit embarrassed. This is where…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make the student have confidence in himself. This is because, as a tutor nothing brings greater joy than seeing your student succeed. One of my main strengths as a tutor is my experience with the International Baccalaureate program. The IB program is known for its rigorous…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is provide methods of thought rather than action, which stimulates the student's abilities to confront problems. I think I am effective at identifying mistakes and correcting them in a communicative manner. I am an adaptable person but generally laid back. I also believe I have the knowledge in my…

To be there for them when they need it and to ensure that they have understood concepts and to build a fun tutor-student relationship. I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are as follows: 1. Spark an interest of excitement over the subject due to the tutor's enthusiasm and encouragement. 2. Help the student succeed in their academics. 3. Turn a stressful or scary thing into something enjoyable and fun. As a tutor, I have 3 key strengths. The first is…

To convince them that they have what it takes to succeed, and to inspire them with the will to do so. I'd like nothing more than to pass this on to other people. I have a tendency to try to think of many…

The most important and basic task of a tutor is to effectively deliver and teach the material requested by the student beforehand. However, I consider inspiring the student to learn as equally important. This is because students can only achieve more academically, only if they have genuine interest in the topic. This is why I hope to inspire…

This approach not only maximizes student advantages but also boosts confidence, serving as the foundation for skill development, motivation, feedback, goal setting, and accessibility. To make a student truly care about learning the topic at hand. Once a student understands the value in what they are learning, their inherent motivation does more to help them than any tutor ever could. Pairing that with some patience and guidance, and the student will thrive. I am extremely patient, and prepared to take as much time as the…

Inside KensingtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Max practised addition and subtraction with four-digit numbers and explored algebra through interactive games, while also tackling a NAPLAN reading comprehension task.

Year 7 student Reuben worked on expanding brackets and simplifying algebraic expressions by grouping like terms, as well as reviewing more challenging homework problems.

For Year 8, Ella focused on solving equations with x-terms on both sides—including those resulting in fractional answers—and consolidated her understanding of index laws during the session.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student often avoided writing out steps, choosing to solve equations mentally—"he was very fluent with the calculator," as a tutor observed, but over-reliance on it led to small errors and missed working in homework.

In Year 10 trigonometry, skipping units and failing to show sketches meant lost marks even when answers were correct.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner resisted tackling long division unless fully confident; this hesitation slowed progress in new maths topics.

In senior chemistry, back-checking sometimes turned into cosmetic correction rather than real error analysis, leaving calculation slips unresolved before tests.

Recent Achievements

A Kensington tutor recently noticed a big shift in Max's attitude toward reading—where he once dreaded reading aloud and froze up at mistakes, he now brings his own book to sessions and reads enthusiastically, even when he stumbles.

In high school maths, Reuben has started tackling challenging algebraic equations with less hesitation; after struggling with factorisation early on, he now solves GCF problems—even tricky ones—in a single lesson.

William also made a breakthrough in geometry by quickly recalling SOH CAH TOA rules for right-angled triangles and correctly identifying triangle sides without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Green Square Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kensington Public School.
