Teaching the student to be motivated to learn, and how to learn and access the resources they need to learn is the most important things a maths tutor can do for a student. Once the student is confident that they can learn, they can become a much better independent learner, and require much tutelage outside of class. I consider one of my most…

Stay patient, some topics are just harder for certain students to understand. Having the enthusiasm for the kids to reflect so they are motivated to learn and loving what you teach. Communication, imagination, being able to explain an idea or theory in many ways, and…

Teaching is not about your own academic ability but being able to explain content in a way the student can understand. The most important thing a maths tutor can do is find the specific way a student learns and use that to teach. I’m highly emotional intelligent and mental health conscious. I believe this will allow me to get the best from my…

The ability to tackle novel problems and come to solutions in a systematic way and the ability to show this thought process to a student. The student ends up with a deep understanding of the topic Very empathetic. Ability to see the…

I believe the most important role a maths tutor plays is to establish a friendly relationship with the student. This makes learning more engaging and achievable. My previous tutoring experience has shown me that students learn best when they are engaged more personally. For example, relating concepts to the hobbies of a student allows them to…

I can be there for a student and reassure them that human brains are sometimes complicated but once you take down the barriers to learning, then you can really take off. It's alright to be confused, it's a sign you're thinking. You're almost there, and if we talk about it and try some simpler examples, then it will all fall into place. Since 2019…

I think it's important for a maths tutor to understand their students educational needs and to help them learn how to apply themselves in the most effective way. The student should be happy with their education and the way their progressing in their subjects. The students need to feel comfortable enough with their tutor to ask for help, and feel…

The most important thing a maths tutor can do for their student is to understand not only where they need assistance in their school work, but how they best learn. No matter how good or well-educated a tutor is, if they can't adapt to different learning styles, the student will not benefit. Through helping my classmates throughout high school,…

Its important for a maths tutor to be able to instill confidence in their students, ensuring that they not only learn the content but are also confident with their knowledge. Furthermore a tutors favourite tool should be empathy, one should think about where students might get stuck on your teachings and how to prepare or improve your lessons…

I think the most important thing a maths tutor can do is provide a unique way to view and understand a problem when the initial approach is confusing the student. I think viewing problems alternatively can really assist light-bulb moments of understanding, because I believe one explanation can never work for everyone. I think I’m articulate…

I'd say the most important thing a tutor can do is present a subject's content in an accessible and positive way, as often this will help the student develop their own passion for the subject which is the most beneficial thing for their grades and academic experiences. Being a form of support. Letting the student know it’s okay to make mistakes because that’s how we learn. It’s okay to make mistakes as much as it is to get it right. Getting things wrong is not easy to deal with but it’s also okay to feel your feelings. Be upset when things go wrong and celebrate your victories! I’m a friendly and…

For me, the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to set aside the necessary time and effort aside for each session. Time management and the ability to plan each session; (some students may find it difficult to sort out for themselves…

Local Reviews

Ali is an exceptional math tutor who helped me not just improve performance at school, but also gain confidence in my abilities. He has helped me develop and maintain a conceptual understanding of all content in the standard math year 11 course, aswell as legal, business and economics. Additionally, he has helped my little sister in year 6 jump ahead with a well prepared plan. He placed priority on not only the education, but also the mental state and confidence of his students. Through his tutoring plans and extra curricular concepts and worksheets he has helped me and my little sister significantly and i highly recommend giving him a shot!

Inside LindenTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Emily focused on reading fluency and practiced counting activities using a workbook.

Year 9 student Liam worked through algebraic expressions, including multiplying and dividing terms, and completed exercises on adding and subtracting algebraic terms for homework review.

For Year 11, Sarah tackled financial mathematics topics such as calculating tax, Medicare levy, and taxable income by working through exam-style worksheets in preparation for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student's lesson notes revealed set homework was left incomplete—especially after covering bearings and area, which meant missed chances to reinforce new skills.

In Year 8 mathematics, messy written work led to confusion: "Organised book with more writing is preferred," noted the tutor, highlighting how disorganisation masked mistakes in geometry questions.

For a Year 10 student, fatigue late in the week resulted in lapses of focus and motivation; as observed during algebra revision, errors crept in when attention drifted. This left them doubting correct answers and hesitating to attempt more challenging problems.

Recent Achievements

A Linden tutor recently noticed Tariq starting to take more initiative—he's now asking clarifying questions about Pythagoras' Theorem and tackling basic algebra with much less prompting than before.

Another high schooler, Isabelle, who initially hesitated over volume calculations, was able to work through problems on cylinders and triangular prisms independently after just a few sessions.

Meanwhile, Lillian in primary school moved from needing frequent reminders during spelling practice to completing her weekly list on her own and even sharing her science project ideas enthusiastically without waiting for encouragement.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Marnus really enjoys Kamran's help and encouragement. They were preparing for his test on Thursday and I hope to get a positive test result because of that. I appreciate my son's positive response to Kamran and his tutoring.

We have had 2 Tutoring lessons with Ishita so far and we are very happy. Ishita is a delightful and intelligent young woman and Emily and I felt comfortable the minute we met her. Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Blue Mountains Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Blue Mountains Steiner School.
