The most important things a maths tutor can do is help the student gain a proper understanding of concepts to aid all their personal study and school work. They should work to build a passion for the subject in the student so they begin to enjoy the study rather than see tutoring and studying as a hassle, which will help their exam performance…

I consider it vital to create a comfortable environment for students where they are able to make mistakes and learn from these mistakes, but also where they are encouraged to continue being tutored and apply themselves in their subjects. Furthermore, another important aspect of tutoring is being organised and being able to provide students with…

I concur with Ezy Math Tutoring's philosophy: a maths tutor’s most important job is to listen and observe how students work and learn, and then provide them with strategies to work and learn more effectively. The tutor must also establish a supportive, mentoring relationship with their student, so that students feel comfortable with discussing…

A tutor must primarily be a supporter of their student. They must be there for the student in all aspects of learning and studying, which involves supporting them when they struggle with certain concepts, and also celebrating with them when they finally understand a certain concept or receive a good result. A tutor must strive to make the student…

One of the most important things for a maths tutor to be able to provide a student, is a sense of progression through exam marks. Moreover, being able to communicate to students well and without ambiguity or miscommunication in the explanation of mathematical concepts is one of the most important qualities a tutor must have, as that is what…

A tutor has to be understanding and respectful to the student that they are teaching, they need to realise that these individuals don't have the same level of knowledge as them at the time, so they need time to learn and understand difficult concepts and that require more explanation. The key is to build a strong healthy and friendly relationship…

The most important things a maths tutor can do is ensure you know their problem or where they may need help and know how you can help them to understand the content. Another important thing that can be done for the student is to ensure that they become comfortable not only with the tutor but also amongst their teacher and fellow students.…

I think patience is the most important skill a maths tutor can have. Some students don't understand a concept right away, I had to have a concept explained to me multiple times before and if the tutor was patient I was not scared to ask. I think as I have been tutored before I knew what worked for me and what didn't so I could apply those ideas.…

I think the most important things a maths tutor can do for a student is providing them with support in different aspects not just academically. The most important thing a maths tutor can do for a student is teach them how to approach learning in a way that is self sufficient. Understanding content is important for the time, but ultimately, a tutor should leave the student with the skills to know how to understand content when the tutor is no longer there. I am patient, persistent and…

In my personal opinion, I believe a game-changer for students is to have a maths tutor who helps build their confidence. Rather than only imparting knowledge, a tutor should foster a learning atmosphere that makes students comfortable to ask questions, make mistakes and even question the knowledge of the tutor. My strengths as a tutor include the…

I had a maths tutor in high school for my VCE studies. I learned that a tutor must be a supportive figure that guides their student with compassion and patience. The most important thing a maths tutor can do is to practice empathy in order to ensure the student knows they're in a safe environment where they are allowed to make mistakes and learn from them. In my opinion, a tutor is someone whose aim is to help a student in all the ways they can. They not only provide academic support through tutorials, guide practices questions and reviews but also possibly even more importantly, give the student the confidence to believe in themselves. This is done through nurturing a safe and judgement free…

Inside MenaiTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Olivia focused on solving simultaneous equations using graphical, elimination, and substitution methods, and also practiced probability questions.

In Year 10, Jack worked through chemical and periodic trends—like atomic radii, electronegativity, and ionisation energy—and tackled mole calculations with real-world examples.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Mia explored equilibrium constants in chemistry and began tackling early concepts from the Year 11 Chemistry curriculum to build confidence for next term.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student struggled to sustain ideas in short answer English responses; "she missed valuable information by reading too quickly," which left key points underdeveloped and reduced marks.

In Year 11 Chemistry, confusion between moles and molecules persisted because written working was incomplete—leaving calculation errors hidden until review.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student tended to do algebra steps mentally rather than on paper, leading to frequent sign mistakes ("he tends to make some silly mistakes doing working out in his head").

After disappointing test results, one Year 9 learner lost focus and avoided reviewing feedback, stalling progress that week.

Recent Achievements

A Menai tutoring session saw Lily, a Year 11 chemistry student, actively organising her notes and making a real effort to adapt complex ideas into formats she could work through independently—previously she hesitated to tackle these tasks alone.

Meanwhile, Sam in Year 10 maths shifted from needing frequent guidance on compound interest questions to completing them confidently with little assistance.

For one of our younger students, Issac in Year 4, he initially struggled with area but persisted through the challenge and was able to complete his assignment with minimal changes needed.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Sean has a true talent for tutoring. James has bonded so well with him already, he looks forward to his sessions and already the class teacher has advised that he is understanding concepts better and may move him up a level in maths! I'm very happy with his progress. We are glad that Sean has picked up on James' difficulties and appreciate his genuine care for James' progress.

I have no doubt it was Nicole's tuition that increased Eden's understanding & test results to an acceptable level (in fact, a little beyond that). Nicole is friendly, approachable, knowledgeable & expresses her ideas in a manner that suited Eden, I felt she was able to adapt her teaching methods to cater to Eden's learning style, which is an incredibly valuable skill as a teacher/tutor.

I enjoyed working with the team and I found tutoring with EzyMath Tutoring to be an incredibly rewarding experience. I would recommend any high school or primary school student to request tutoring through EzyMath Tutoring as I believe the staff organises tutoring incredibly well and provide an incredible amount of educational material to EzyMath Tutoring tutors. I would personally thank you for all your help and encouragement throughout the program.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Menai Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Menai Public School.
