Encouragement is the most important quality a maths tutor should have. Doubt is unfortunately a huge negative factor when trying to learn so when a tutor shows a true belief to a student, confidence sparks & can fuel motivation. I believe a tutor is meant to empower their student to success By personal experience, I’ve had both, a tutors who…

I believe that it is key that you understand how a student is thinking and how the individual's mind perceives things such as their surroundings or just problems in general. This way you are able to connect with them in a more effective manner which will therefore increase the bond of the relationship and also as a maths tutor, pose a greater…

Connecting interpersonally. You need to be able to understand your students in order to tutor them effectively. What they struggle with, maybe an interest of theirs, hobbies. Inside NowergupTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Jacob practised expanding and simplifying algebraic expressions using the distributive property, then combined like terms for more efficient solutions.

Year 9's Aanya worked on solving simultaneous equations by eliminating variables through subtraction and applying substitution to find unknowns.

For Year 10, Ben tackled linear equation word problems involving wages and income, focusing on setting up and solving equations from real-life scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9, one student's written working in algebra was often incomplete—he skipped showing steps in equations with coefficients, which hid sign errors. This made backtracking harder and slowed progress on new material.

A Year 11 student tackling calculus relied heavily on mental calculation rather than pen and paper, especially when differentiating; this led to confusion with more complex equations and increased error rates.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student lost her homework for the week, leaving some planned revision unfinished before the next session.

In another instance, a Year 4 learner hesitated to start composite shape problems due to low confidence.

Recent Achievements

One Nowergup tutor noticed a high school student who used to skip writing out their steps in maths now consistently breaks down equations on paper, making fewer calculation errors and solving linear equations with coefficients and fractions independently.

Another secondary student, after struggling with simultaneous equations, can now confidently use elimination and substitution methods to find both variables—she even tackled questions involving tricky fractions without hesitation.

Meanwhile, a younger student has started setting her own goals at the start of each session; this week she stuck to those targets, racing ahead on problem-solving tasks and revisiting previous challenges to solve them unaided.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Laura has definitely gotten Diana to a great start. She eagerly anticipates her tutoring  and is seeming to take more  interest in Maths especially in the strands that she did not feel very confident about. Diana has told me that Laura's  explanations are easily understood and is simplified which makes it easy to remember. She also explains various strategies that can be used for problem solving which is good for time management when attempting to solve problems in class. Diana is able to use the notes taken during tutoring in class which is assisting with her understanding of the relevant strand or concept.

Things are going really well.  Emily is a lovely young woman who has engaged well with my daughter.  Tia feels comfortable with her and is learning new skills.  It is great. Thanks once again for such wonderful service and professionalism.  It is such a change to receive follow up and genuine interest in the service provided .  Your company is to be commended!!

We asked for assistance on a short term basis to help with some exam preparation.  Our tutor was quickly able to assess our daughter's capability and provide practical assistance with problem solving and techniques. Most importantly the tutor instilled real confidence in our daughter's ability, offering encouragement, support and reinforcement all the way.  We would not hesitate to contact Ezy Math for our future needs.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Clarkson Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like East Butler Primary School.
