A teacher is a second mother to a student who can mould him in a better human being by teaching morals and ethical values. Moreover, she can her best to make better understand about the topic to her student so that they can grasp easily and get a strong base. My strength is that I'm passionate about teaching. I believe some of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is being understanding and having great listening and observational skills. Learning can be challenging for some people and this can be frustrating, so having someone understanding help can put students at ease and facilitate learning. Additionally, the listening and…

I think it is most important to figure out what the student needs. Some students need a lot of practice to enhance their learning. Some students need repeated explanation. Some students need elaborated content. I am very strong in Maths and sciences. I have a unique understanding of the concepts behind these subjects. I can make the complicated…

Studying techniques, creating good habits and of course, feedback for improvements! These are the important aspects that a tutor should show their students. There is much more to learning than parroting back facts - information needs to absorbed, regurgitated, reused in a practical sense. I have much hands-on experience in using my chosen skills -…

I think passion is the most important quality. With passion, it comes along with motivation. One with passion can often get the job done better than others without it. I believe my strengths are patience and passion. I love to help others improve and thrive, hence usually I would put more effort into teaching others. I can speak English,…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to help them truly understand the content, and to help build the student's self confidence. Having compassion. Being proficient in a subject does not guarantee that the student will understand as deeply as the tutor. Sometimes, techniques won't work, or the student may have problems outside of academics. Being compassionate will outweigh any other things that a tutor can do at the end of the day. I am able to compartmentalize well, and…

Fostering an environment of growth is key: tutors need to encourage the student to ask questions, set realistic standards and recognise failure as the opportunity to learn. Seeing these mindsets shift within students is extremely rewarding as a teacher. In my experience of tutoring, it is less about showing the student what you know and…

For me, the most important thing is to show them and teach them to understand the process of the subject itself. This mean that they need to understand and see why and how the method works the way it is and why we teach the lesson this way. Another important factor is the student itself enjoying the lesson and learning process. This, for me can be…

As a student who has had tutors in the past, I think that the most important thing that a tutor can do for their student is to be there for them when they need help and assistance. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is have the wisdom to be able to solve the problems which they cannot. Because if a tutor can't even do this, then everything else is pretty much irrelevant. Furthermore, having the ability to explain concepts is also very important as you can't be a great tutor if you can't explain things well…

Inside CremorneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 Jonas reviewed algebra concepts and perimeter for both regular and irregular shapes, then worked through an angles worksheet with extension into angle types.

Year 8 Jamie focused on comparing and simplifying fractions, followed by work on percentages, decimals, and how they relate to fractions.

For Year 10 Jonas, lessons included statistics—such as five-number summary analysis—and extending algebra skills using targeted worksheets.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student, when working through trigonometry and statistics tasks, sometimes left diagrams or graphs missing key labels—one note read, "Remember to write the title for x & y axis & Dun forget to write '0' in the left bottom corner."

In a Year 8 algebra lesson, calculation errors crept in because handwritten numbers (especially 0 and 6) were hard to distinguish; confusion led to time wasted double-checking their own work.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student often hesitated on multi-step worded problems, showing less confidence and skipping answer checks after finishing. This resulted in avoidable errors persisting across sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Cremorne tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who used to struggle with statistics; after three weeks reviewing quartiles and box plots, he now finds Q1, median, and Q3 quickly and accurately without prompts.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student who was hesitant to ask for help has started actively decoding complex algebra word problems on her own and confidently checks her process aloud as she works.

In primary, one Year 6 student recently figured out the formula for the area of a parallelogram himself after an initial explanation—something he'd found confusing before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Richmond Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Melbourne Girls Grammar - Morris Hall Campus.
