I think the most important thing as an economics tutor you need to be honest, be flexible, be patient, be a good listener, teach the student how to learn. I believe tutors fill a different role than teachers and parents, and that puts them in a unique position to support students. Personal relationships are foundational to student success -- the…

Patience and not comparing them with the others. I believe that each student has their own pace of learning. Lack of patience and comparing them with others will certainly hamper their learning process and will give them less confidence on their studies. Understanding the most effective way of learning for each student is also crucial. When I was…

It is important to be patient and approachable so that students feel comfortable coming to you with their queries. Availability and dependability is also important. If a student has last minute issues the night before their exam it is important that they can rely on their tutor to get back to them by the end of the day with an answer. I am patient…

Inside SydneyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student worked on addition and subtraction strategies, using number lines to visualise solutions.

In Year 10, Olivia focused on advanced trigonometry by reviewing her recent test and then tackled polynomials from chapter 22b.1.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student spent the session revising circle geometry concepts and began preparing for upcoming exam questions by applying key theorems to practice problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student had to revisit the logs chapter quickly due to time pressure, which meant gaps in understanding persisted into revision.

In Year 8 algebra, a reluctance to show working made it hard for her tutor to spot where negatives and positives went astray—she skipped showing steps in rearranging equations, so errors stayed hidden.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student struggled with concentration during worded problems and left several questions unfinished.

For a senior English task, one student avoided linking evidence back to topic sentences, leading to half-complete assignments that missed out on marks for structure and clarity.

Recent Achievements

One Sydney tutor noticed a Year 11 student who, after weeks of needing reminders, now double-checks her answers independently and has cut down on careless mistakes.

In Year 9, a previously hesitant student is starting to tackle circle geometry questions solo—last session she completed two problem sets without asking for help.

From the younger years, a Year 3 child who struggled with reading aloud managed to read an entire short paragraph and explain its meaning in her own words by the end of their latest session.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Mitch has been so wonderful with Nick and is doing an amazing job tutoring Nick, especially getting Nick focused on completing his maths homework. He has worked with Nick so well and has established a great working relationship with him. His patient demeanor is certainly a strong attribute and has made tutoring for Nick so much easier.  Nick has commented several times that 'he has learnt more with Mitch today than he has all week with his teacher'.

I am delighted with Domenic's tutoring. I was concerned about how the tutoring would go because Jake struggles with a high level of anxiety but Domenic has put him at his ease.  He has engaged very well with my son, and is enthusiastic, encouraging, knowledgable and organised. He explains concepts in a way that Jake can grasp them: Jake has had at least one 'ah-ha' moment in every session. Domenic is also always punctual and polite. He has made a big difference already to Jett's confidence and performance at Maths. I look forward to having him continue to tutor Jake through his HSC.

We are certainly happy and off to a great start. Edward has been great, punctual & helpful. I am confident this  trend will continue and George's math will only improve.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as State Library of NSW—or at your child's school (with permission), like Macquarie Grammar School.
