The most important thing is to make sure that the student has completely understood the concept. It is useless to move forward if they don't understand the basics. I am able to understand the thought process of a student and their weak points. This allows me to help construct their concepts from the base up and ensure they can solve any…

Understanding the issues of a student. I believe that tutors should be able to understand why a student is struggling with something, and help them according to their strengths and weaknesses. A student won't be able to learn with advice that isn't applicable to them, because everyone's capability to learn isn't at the same level. Gaining a…

The skill of empathy towards a student is possibly one of the most important things an english tutor should be equipped with, in that they need to recognise that while you're an expert on the material, the student is learning it for the first time. Thus, tutors like myself need to be able to present concepts that the student can understand, i.e.,…

One of the most important things when tutoring is to maxmise your effort to help a student in any way possible, without actually doing an assignment/answering the question for them. Inside Wiley ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Olivia focused on identifying and simplifying ratios, as well as writing equivalent ratios using practical examples.

In Year 8, Noah worked through scale drawings by applying unit conversions for length and distance in worded problems.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Sarah reviewed half-yearly exam topics such as operations with fractions, decimals, and percentages, including their application to financial questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly left working out incomplete, especially units in ratio and geometry questions, leading to lost marks—"she needs to develop the habit of writing FULL working out, including all units," as one tutor observed.

In a Year 9 algebra session, she relied heavily on calculators for fraction and percentage conversions instead of practicing by hand, which slowed her confidence with mixed exam questions.

During primary revision, a student skipped over worded multiplication problems without breaking them down into steps or checking their layout; this made it hard to spot mistakes before moving on.

In high school sessions, not creating summary notes or revisiting foundational skills before exams meant she guessed answers under pressure and forgot key processes after breaks.

Recent Achievements

A Wiley Park tutor noticed a big shift in one high school student's approach to assessments—after usually waiting until the last minute, she began working on her logbook and portfolio the same day they were assigned, bringing creative ideas to her project.

Another high schooler who previously hesitated with "hard" ratio problems now completes similar questions independently after just a brief explanation.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who used to struggle when subtracting smaller numbers from larger ones is now confidently using borrowing without prompting, finishing subtraction exercises with no errors.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Tutoring has gotten off to a great start thankyou. Adrian is always on time and his professional & friendly manner has encouraged Erin to have a positive response to being tutored ( she was not keen initially) Erin is enjoying her session with Adrian and I can see her willingness to work with him will increase her confidence in maths in general.

We are very happy with Rachel. Natasha feels very comfortable with Rachel and they get along well. Natasha feels more confident about maths now and almost excited to do her maths test at school tomorrow. Rachel has applied learning techniques that work best for Natasha and she is very patient. Rachel is also a lovely girl and has a warm personality. We are very thankful to have her tutoring Natasha.

We are very happy with Chris and especially how Nathan is progressing. His confidence has lifted and he is very happy.

English tutoring in Wiley Park

Take a few minutes to skim through our testimonials. You'll no doubt feel a sense of surprise. People's experience shows that tutoring does so much more than just boost grades. It changes lives. Like most parents you are probably looking for an English tutor to help your child with some specific goal or challenge. However, with the right tutor, you get so much more.

Once a student has the experience of progress and accomplishment they learn, and start to internalize, the idea "If I try, I can accomplish". This confidence often results in a performance improvement across all subjects, not just English and starts a student on the cycle of success. It's addictive too! Having a sense of confidence in one's own abilities is so rewarding!
